Significant dates May 7th. Holidays and events in May
Radio day
On the date we are considering, workers in all communications sectors in Russia celebrate a professional celebration - Radio Day. The information boom that has overtaken us is, first of all, the result of the persistent and painstaking work of many scientists and inventors who, at the cost of their own health, worked for the benefit of the future of humanity, for the sake of children, grandchildren and you and me. Is it possible to imagine the current world without all this? Hardly! Therefore, Radio Day implies a broader focus, that is, this day can safely be called a holiday for all workers not only in radio broadcasting, but also in television, cellular communications, signalmen, postal workers, radio amateurs and all those related to the communications industries.
The event was timed to coincide with a special day when the outstanding Russian physicist-inventor A. Popov in 1895, at a meeting of the physicochemical community, demonstrated a wireless radio system he had designed, designed for information exchange between parties located at a long distance from each other. It seems that just recently an outstanding inventor tried to “conquer” electromagnetic waves by converting them into human speech. When this did happen, people considered this phenomenon a miracle, and today the widespread communication system is perceived by us as an integral element of everyday life, as a matter of course.
Day of the creation of the armed forces in Russia
In 1992, by Decree of the President of Russia, the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was organized. The modern structure of the Russian Armed Forces includes three main types: air force, ground forces, navy; as well as three types of troops: Missile, Space, Airborne; other Russian troops that are not part of the Armed Forces, but play a huge role in ensuring state security. The cohesive system of the Russian Armed Forces makes it possible to increase the country's combat effectiveness and ensure its overall stability and security. On May 7, employees of the listed troops celebrate a professional holiday, called in the Russian calendar the Day of the Creation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
May 7 in the folk calendar
Evseyev day
On May 7, people honor the memory of the Most Holy Euseus (Eusebius) of Nicodmedia, who lived in the fourth century and suffered martyrdom for faith in Christ at the hands of Emperor Diocletian, perhaps the most furious persecutor and exterminator of Christians in history.
Peasants in Rus' claimed that on Evseyev Day, incredible fatigue “sticks” to everyone and people literally begin to “bend to the ground.” In order to drive away the attack, the peasants went to church, took communion, prayed and always washed themselves with holy water. It was also good to lie down on the reviving and blooming greenery to recharge with energy from Mother Earth. By this day, the sowing of oats had already been completed. By the way, it was necessary to sow it in a certain place and at a strictly designated time, regardless of the condition of the soil and the prevailing weather. However, there were some exceptions to the rule. For example, sowing oats was also allowed during periods of birch blossoming, the appearance of winged ants, or the fall of willow fluff.
People judged the future harvest by the presence of mosquitoes: if there was no curfew for insects on Evseyev Day, then the harvest in the fall would be especially significant, and vice versa. It was also believed that after May 7, several frosty days alternating one after another were established on the street.
Historical events of May 7
May 7, 1755– Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) solemnly opened its doors
Moscow State University is rightfully considered one of the oldest surviving universities in the Russian Federation. It was designed by the talented mind of the first Russian academician M. Lomonosov. After the project of this educational institution was presented to the then-ruling Elizabeth, she immediately signed an order to found the university. Its grand opening for educational purposes took place on May 7, 1755, on the anniversary of Her Majesty's coronation. In accordance with Lomonosov’s idea, three faculties were formed in the building: law, medicine and philosophy. Each school day began with the study of philosophy, which helped students gain a basis for subsequent study of the natural sciences and humanities. May 7, 1985– Adoption by the Council of Ministers of the USSR of the resolution “On measures to overcome drunkenness, alcoholism, and the eradication of moonshine”
The contents of this document were published by all newspapers of the Soviet Union. The all-Union slogan of the large-scale anti-alcohol campaign, which all citizens of the USSR were obliged to follow, was the words “Sobriety is the norm of life.” The action was supported by a sharp jump in prices for alcoholic products, as well as a significant reduction in their sales. Vodka was sold using special coupons. The resolution of the Council of Ministers caused widespread discontent among the people. Radical measures led to very threatening consequences - many began to buy alcoholic beverages illegally, regardless of the mechanism for obtaining them and their quality. This, naturally, led to mass poisonings.
All distilleries were forced to convert into companies producing non-alcoholic products. This resulted in massive financial consequences, and the level of speculation and theft increased. Due to losses in the production of alcoholic beverages, the Soviet Union lost more than twenty billion rubles. Then a new time came into force - the abolition of the state monopoly on the sale of alcohol. Gradually, the anti-alcohol “war” completely faded away.

Events of May 7 that happened around the world in different years
Every year on May 7, Russia celebrates the Day of the Presidential Regiment. On this day, the regiment is presented to the President of Russia - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The Presidential / Kremlin / regiment is a unique military unit. It solves specific combat missions to ensure the safety of top officials of the state and the safety of Kremlin values. The regiment is part of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and has the status of a special unit. Reports directly to the President of the Russian Federation - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

On May 7, Russia celebrates Radio Day - a professional holiday for workers in all communications sectors. On this day in 1895, Russian physicist Alexander Stepanovich Popov carried out the first radio communication session and demonstrated the first radio receiver to the world.
For the first time this date was solemnly celebrated in our country in May 1925. It was radio's thirtieth anniversary. Previous round dates passed unnoticed. This can be explained by the complexity of the political situation in Russia in those years. The twentieth anniversary of radio coincided with the height of the First World War; during the twenty-fifth anniversary, there was a civil war in the country.
The radio's half-century anniversary coincided with the victorious end of the war with Nazi Germany. On May 2, 1945, a Decree was issued by the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR on the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the invention of radio by A.S. Popov. Considering the role of radio in the cultural and political life of society and in the defense of the country, the government decided to establish an annual “Radio Day” on May 7th.
To date, radio communications have come a long way in its development, and today communication technologies are an integral part of our everyday life.
