How to draw an elephant with a pencil step by step. Step-by-step instructions: How to draw an elephant? General outline of the elephant's body shape
We draw an African forest elephant, which differs from the savanna elephant in its brownish color, rounded ears, and height (maximum 2.4 m at the withers versus 3–3.8 m). The forest elephant is smaller in size than the savanna elephant, its fur is thicker, of a different color, it plays a significant role in pollinating tropical forest plants, but in the International Red Book both species appear under the name Loxodonta africana.
Materials:
- Paper.
- A simple pencil for sketching.
- Eraser.
- Colored pencils: beige, light brown, dark brown, black.
How to draw a forest elephant step by step
Let's draw two figures. Adjust to obtain curved contour lines.
We complete the oval at the junction of the two main figures - the future ear of the elephant. We add legs showing the movement of the animal - we draw elongated ovals.
Correcting the contour of the head. Add a trunk, tusks, mouth and eyes. On the legs we draw semicircles - hooves (there are 4-5 hooves in total on the front legs and 5 on the hind legs, but when the elephant is in profile, not all come into view).
Let's detail the drawing. Use an eraser to remove excess lines. We highlight the outline of the animal and its main parts. Add folds to the legs, belly and head to make the elephant look a little wrinkled.
Use a beige pencil to give the elephant a basic shade, and use a light brown pencil to create shadows and partial shades.
Using dark brown and black pencils we work on the shadow and outline of each fragment of the drawing.
The result is a wonderful image of an African forest elephant.
We draw with children step by step. How to Draw an Elephant Easy for Kids.
Who lives in the African plains has grey colour, very huge in size, makes loud noises and likes to splash in the water? If you think this is an elephant... then you are absolutely right! When children or teenagers choose to draw an animal, then luck is one of the most common choices, find and draw an elephant. I know that this is one of the most difficult animals to draw, because I also had a difficult time when I was a novice artist and tried to somehow show animals in my drawings, I especially wanted these huge but beautiful animals.
It seems to me that the reason why elephants are difficult for a beginner to draw is because they have so many different shaped body parts of different textures and shapes. Their heads seem smaller than their ears, their legs are larger than their tails, and their bodies are large, round, but at the same time short. How to compare all this?
The elephant's skin also looks kind of tough and it takes a lot of effort to outline it, especially if you're trying to draw an elephant in a realistic manner. That's why I wanted to prepare a lesson for you that will help you learn how to draw it, even if you are the most beginner of all beginner artists.
Let's see now how to draw an elephant for children step by step. Here we will not have a single way to make a mistake or get even the slightest problem when drawing. The author has tried his best, trust me and start! So, as always, you have fun tinkering with this animal to draw another monkey, penguin or panda for company! Because it reminded me of when I was ten years old, I tried to draw a scene at the zoo. I won’t say that it looked too good and you can brag left and right, but such an opportunity will now appear for you. So, good luck to you, friends!
Step 1.
Okay, as you saw in the lesson pictogram, our elephant will bring you nothing but joy for drawing. To start, let's draw two circular shapes, one for the head and the other for the body. The body circle should be slightly larger than the first shape. Then draw a line in the middle of the first circle. Don't make it too noticeable, because we'll erase it as soon as it's no longer needed.
Step 2.
Now you will begin to draw the elephant's head. Start at the front and add a hose that comes out of the elephant to be its nose. The nose shaft should curve slightly at the tip, as you see here in our picture.
Step 3.
Starting at the top of the head, draw the shapes of the elephant's ears and then draw oblong shapes for the eyes. In addition, it is necessary to paint over the eyes, leaving light spots for reflections of light and the pupils.
Step 4.
Now you can start drawing out the entire body, starting from the back. Then we will draw the elephant’s front legs, chest and small tummy. See how easy it is?
Step 5.
Time to complete your elephant drawing, friends! The hour has struck, and all you need to do here is draw his back elephant, draw his back legs, and then draw in a short tail with a bell for hair. Erase the lines and shapes you drew in step one to clean up your drawing and complete it.
Step 6.
That's all, we have an amazing new elephant, and quite easily and quickly. Color it. And to draw a baby elephant with its mother, all you have to do is repeat the steps, but draw a much smaller elephant. Thanks for joining me, friends, and I hope you enjoy the other drawings on the site!
Good afternoon, today we present to your attention another big lesson from the topic of drawing animals. And today we are learning how to draw an elephant.
Step 1
So, very important advice for artists. When drawing an elephant, you need to take into account that a lot of detail will be required. 1. An elephant's trunk is very flexible and is used as arms. By adding wrinkles to the trunk, you will make it quite believable. 2. The ears need to be drawn with maximum precision. The cuts on the ears give the animal age and nobility. 3. Add a few wrinkles along the edges of the ears.
Step 2
Let's begin. Draw a large circle for the head and a larger circle for the body.
Step 3
Next, draw the outlines of the elephant’s trunk and ears. Try to make it beautiful.
Step 4
Now let's draw the base for the tusk, long legs, an eye and a second ear. The elephant's legs are really long and skinny, widening towards the bottom.
Step 5
Let's add finishing details. We draw wrinkles on the ears, knee lines, tusk, and fingers.
Step 6
Let's remove the auxiliary lines and color it to our liking.
How to easily draw an elephant with a pencil step by step - for children and adults. Let's learn to draw a beautiful elephant with a pencil step by step together with your child. Find out how to quickly and easily learn to draw a beautiful baby elephant.
Every person in his life wants to learn how to draw, especially children love to draw and want to learn how to draw beautifully, they are interested in learning how to draw not only trees, the sun, people, houses, flowers, but also various animals.
Today we’ll see how you can quickly and easily learn to draw an elephant. Take a sheet of paper and a pencil, look carefully at the picture where an elephant is drawn. Look at the position of the elephant, how and where different parts of the elephant’s body are located.
In the center of the picture is the body of an elephant, on the left is the head of an elephant, on the right is the tail of an elephant, and at the bottom are the powerful, thick legs of an elephant.
Now, in the same way, mentally, divide your sheet of paper for different parts of the elephant’s body.
First start drawing the elephant from the body, it consists of one large oval.
Now to the left of the elephant’s body, draw a small circle - this will be the elephant’s head and connect the elephant’s head and body with two lines.
From the front, draw the elephant's trunk, it should be slightly elongated and rounded at the bottom, then draw four legs along with the foot.
Draw the elephant’s tail from the back; it should be of medium length.
Now draw the elephant's head. From the elephant's back to the end of the head, draw a line that smoothly goes into the trunk, draw the elephant's trunk, the trunk should be wider at the top, slightly narrowed towards the bottom, round it and draw the tip of the trunk.
Look carefully at how the elephant's tusks are drawn, they are located in the lower part of the head, the long tips of the tusks are pointed. Below, under the tusks, draw the elephant’s mouth.
The elephant's ear is very large and located on the right side of the head, hanging down, the edge of the ear is slightly uneven, wavy, the tip of the ear is slightly pointed. Everything that needs to be drawn in the picture is drawn in red.
Now we need to draw the front legs of the elephant. Draw the legs powerful, thick, the right leg is drawn a little forward, and the left leg a little back. Everything that needs to be drawn in the picture is drawn in red.
Now we need to draw the elephant's hind legs. Draw the legs powerful, thick, the right leg is drawn a little forward, and the left leg a little back. Draw the elephant's back and belly. Draw the tail of the elephant at the back; at the top it is thin compared to the elephant, and at the bottom it is slightly wider, because the elephant has a tassel at the tip. Everything that needs to be drawn in the drawing is drawn in red.
The outline of the elephant is almost ready, now you need to draw the elephant’s eye in the form of a small oval and draw small lines on the pupil on the elephant’s trunk. Draw toes on the elephant's feet. Adjust the entire outline of the elephant. Everything that needs to be drawn in the picture is drawn in red.
Erase the extra lines that are no longer needed and outline the outline of the elephant brighter. Look what a beautiful elephant you have made. Now you can color the elephant however you want.
Now you can draw a little elephant
Take a sheet of paper and a pencil, look carefully at the picture where the elephant is drawn. Look at the position of the elephant, how and where its different body parts are located.
In the center of the picture is the body of an elephant, on the right is the head of an elephant, on the left is the tail of an elephant, and at the bottom are drawn the powerful, thick legs of an elephant.
Now, in the same way, mentally, divide your sheet of paper for different parts of the elephant’s body. First, start drawing the elephant from the body, it consists of one large circle.
To the right, from just above the middle of the elephant’s body, draw another circle, only a little smaller - this will be the elephant’s head.
On the bottom left side, draw another circle - this will be the elephant’s back leg. On the right, draw two ovals, one larger, it is in contact with the elephant’s body - this will be the elephant’s second back leg, and the other small oval, not far from the large oval - this will be the tip of the elephant’s trunk.
Now connect the elephant's head and the tip of the elephant's trunk with two curved lines - this will be the elephant's trunk. Draw the elephant’s ears, they are large, rounded, located on the right and left sides of the head. From the front, draw the two front legs of the elephant.
Draw the elephant’s eyes, they should be in the form of small circles, draw the elephant’s eyebrows above the eyes. Near the trunk on the right and left sides, draw the elephant’s tusks, the tips of the tusks are pointed. On the back left side, draw a tail for the elephant; the tip of the tail should be like a tassel.
Complete the elephant's eyes, draw them in the form of an oval and draw the pupils. Color your eyebrows brighter, draw a little thicker tail. Complete the elephant's trunk and draw the elephant's fingers.
Erase the extra lines that are no longer needed and color the elephant. Look what a beautiful elephant you have made.

Conclusion
Learn to draw yourself, teach your children to draw, to draw an elephant and an elephant step by step, it took you a little time, but now you know how to draw this magnificent animal. We wish you good luck in your future works.
Today we will look at the structural features of his body and learn how to create beautiful drawings with the image of one of the most exotic animals on our planet - the elephant.
Materials
- Sketch paper
- Graphite pencils of different hardnesses
- Eraser.
First you need to study a little the structure of the animal. Before you start serious work, you should first practice creating simple sketches.
Where to begin
When starting to draw, we definitely need to find good photographs and study them carefully.
You can also use the figure below as an example.
These are the largest land mammals on our planet. A long trunk, fan-shaped ears, combined with very impressive size and weight, create a unique image and silhouette. This animal is easily recognizable and cannot be confused with anyone else.
Anatomy
Unusual shapes and body parts make it easy to create a recognizable silhouette. Still, if we look at the skeleton, we will understand that it is not much different from the skeletons of other animals, only its tusks give it away. By the way, tusks are not always present.
Skeleton
To depict an animal from different angles and in movement, it is important to understand how this animal works. We will not study anatomy, but will simplify it as much as possible to the required level. Schematically, the anatomy of an animal for drawing can be shown as follows:
The elephant has a fairly simple and understandable structure. The large chest and pelvis are supported by the spine. Two pairs of limbs with joints similar to those of humans (elbows and knees, wrists and heels, shoulder and pelvic joints). The huge body rests on the feet, which are formed from the toes and a large fat pad.
Pay attention to the direction of the tusks, which are indicated in green.
Shape and silhouette
Let's create a primitive silhouette. At this stage we use only the most simple shapes, we do not go into details. All the lines are very, very light, barely noticeable.
The green line depicts a silhouette created from simple shapes. Red arrows show the general direction: from the pelvis up to the chest; the belly sags between the hind legs and rises to the front legs. We schematically show the head and trunk, torso and pelvis, front and hind limbs.
Heavy body, big muscle mass and very thick skin greatly hide anatomical features. Even when moving, the joints are not prominent. The elbow joint is still visible, while the knees are almost completely covered by muscle and skin.
If the elephant is walking, you first need to indicate the direction of this movement. You can show this with a spine line, or an arrow, like in the image below.
When an animal raises its head, the line of the spine draws a small arc from the top of the head and almost to the pelvis. We bend the legs and specify their thickness. Showing the trunk.
Let's add ears and tusks, observing their direction. Let's clarify the trunk, moving away from the head it becomes narrower.
Tail
Let's draw a thin tail with a small brush at the tip.
Tail
Feet
The image below shows the feet, they deserve special attention. There is a slight expansion in the foot area.
On the hind legs: three nails, on the front legs - four.
Full face
Let's take a closer look at how the head is structured, because this is where the main distinctive features this animal. Since in previous illustrations we drew the elephant in profile, now we will show it from the front.
Head
For better understanding, let's look at a schematic representation of the head.
The red line shows the shape into which the skull can be fit, the upper part is a semi-oval, the bottom is slightly narrowed.
Green lines divide the head in half horizontally and vertically; they will help us create a symmetrical pattern and correctly place the eyes. We place small eyes above the horizontal axis far enough apart from each other.
Yellow arrows show the directions and shape of the folds on the trunk.
Pink wavy lines show the uneven surface of the tips of the ears.
Purple arrows show where the tusks grow from and in which direction. The orange triangles are the skin that covers the base of the tusks, but if the elephant has no tusks, then this part will be missing from the portrait.
Ears
The ears are very large, and serve as an air conditioner for these animals - they help cool themselves.
This picture shows the differences between African (right) and Asian (left) elephants, Indian ears are much smaller than African ones, and there are differences in the shape of the skull.
At the tips of the large ears of African elephants there are irregularities, folds, and capillaries that penetrate the shell.
Eyes
The picture below shows what shape and cut the eyes of these animals usually have. There are many wrinkles of rough skin around the eyes. Often there are eyelashes, they grow straight without bending, this is shown by arrows in one of the images below, sometimes they are placed chaotically and directed in different directions.
It is very important to place the eyes correctly. They should not creep onto the line of the trunk; most often the eyes are located above the base of the tusks.
The illustration below shows the features of the shape of the skull in the eye area. There is a protrusion above the eyes (1) - brow ridges, then above the eyebrows - depressions (2).
Use light touches to show these shapes in your work to give it more authenticity.
Trunk and tusks
Drawing a trunk is not at all difficult, especially if you don’t go into detail. Be sure to pay attention to the shape and relief of the trunk from the back side. The finger-like processes attract attention here; in the figure they can be shown in two wavy lines, running along the trunk, between them there are many connecting membranes or folds. There are also folds on the front side, but they are larger. All of them describe the round shape of the trunk.
The piglet has two holes and a heart-shaped or round shape.
Under the trunk is the lower jaw, it is visible when the animal opens its mouth.
Tusks can be of different lengths and slightly different in shape; many animals do not have them. The tusks emerge from the upper jaw and are covered with skin at the base.
Skin, folds
At the end, it’s worth detailing our drawing, adding shadows in the lower part of the body, on the stomach, under the ears and tail, lower jaw, under the trunk and tusks.
In the picture above, red arrows show the characteristic directions of folds in the skin. The figure will become more voluminous if you add strokes of varying intensity, repeating and describing the shape of the body with them. The skin will appear rougher with distinct streaks showing deep folds and wrinkles.
