Marengo grey. Marengo color in clothes: photo combinations
Marengo is the shade of the sea under gray heavy clouds, not steely and shiny, but deep dark. Marengo is also called the color of dark sea wave or wet asphalt.
One of the shades of gray, namely black with a gray tint, is called marengo. This complex color looks different depending on the texture to which it is applied. Often the term refers to the color of the fabric.
Origin of color
Marengo color, as a variety of shades of gray, appeared in 1800 after the Battle of Marengo. In the village of Marengo in northern Italy, dark gray fabric with white splashes was produced. Napoleon Bonaparte wore an overcoat made of such cloth during the battle with the Austrian army. Later, this color briefly came into fashion.
Variety of marengo
In Russia, the name “Marengo-Clair” has stuck, which means light gray, as well as “chestnut Marengo”, which has a shade of brown. In the twentieth century, the color marengo was widely used for uniforms of Soviet soldiers and sailors. The color of the police uniform was changed from blue to marengo.
In Russia, the term marengo more often refers to the color of the fabric - dark fiber with the addition of white veins. Melange wool fabric used for coats or suits is called marengo. However, throughout the world, this term does not refer to fabric, but refers to the color of paint that is used in various industries.
Marengo in clothes
Being a complex composite color, marengo harmonizes perfectly with clothing in gray or blue tones. This feature of Marengo is completely uncharacteristic of pure gray flowers. The combination of these shades fits perfectly into a strict office style and casual wear. Marengo also goes well with black, white and beige colors, adding brightness and richness to the entire look. Bright colors against the background of marengo become more saturated, but at the same time they look more delicate than in contrast with black.
Marengo in the interior
Marengo, used in textures reminiscent of the surface of the sea, looks fresh and elegant. Lacquered wood, metals, satin, silk, glass and other smooth textures reveal all the beauty and uniqueness of marengo color, giving it lightness and depth. The rough cloth texture makes marengo rough, dull and flat, and light silk makes it lively and playful.
The combination of dark marengo with other complex tones must be diluted with simple light colors. This interior should not be used for a bedroom or lounge, as it creates a harsh and rough mood. This design is suitable for an office or creative establishment.

Sometimes the word refers to black fabric with white threads.

Origin
in the 18th century - the name of a dark brown fabric with white speckles, produced in the village of Marengo in northern Italy. In France - marengo ou brun (“marengo, or brown”), in Russia - “chestnut marengo”. After the Battle of Marengo on June 14, 1800, in which the troops of Napoleon Bonaparte inflicted a crushing defeat on the Austrian army, marengo began to be called gray or black fabric interspersed with white or gray thread (which is typical for homespun fabric). This color was associated with the gray cloth of Bonaparte's greatcoat and briefly came into fashion. In Russia at the beginning of the 19th century. the name “marengo clair” (French marengo clair - “marengo light”), that is, light gray, was established.
Application
Color Marengo was used in Soviet uniforms.
“In 1921, the [uniform] of military sailors was approved: for command personnel, a cap and winter hat, a coat (from 1925 an overcoat) in marengo color, a jacket and trousers in black, a dark blue and white jacket; for Red Navy men - a peakless cap, a coat (from 1925 an overcoat) in marengo color, a black pea coat, dark blue flannel and white shirts with a blue collar, a vest, black trousers and blue work clothes.”
In 1969, the Soviet police received a new marengo-colored uniform. (Before this, the uniform was blue.)

Excerpt characterizing Marengo (color)
Sever drooped, as if inside he did not agree with what he himself had just told me... I felt with all my heart, with all my soul, that he believed much more in what I believed so confidently. But I also knew that he would not open up to me without betraying Meteora and his beloved great Teachers. So I decided to leave him alone and not torment him any more...- Tell me, Sever, what happened to Mary Magdalene? Do her descendants still live somewhere on Earth?
“Of course, Isidora!..” Sever immediately answered, and it seemed to me that he was sincerely pleased by the change of topic...
Wonderful painting by Rubens “The Crucifixion”. Next to the body of Christ (below) are Magdalene and his brother, Radan (in
red), and behind Magdalena is Radomir’s mother, Sage Maria. At the very top is John, and to the right and left of
him - two Knights Templar. The remaining two figures are unknown. Perhaps they were Jews who
lived Radomir's family?..
– After the death of Christ, Magdalene left that cruel, evil land, which took away from her the most dear person in the world. She left, taking with her her baby daughter, who was only four years old at the time. And her eight-year-old son was secretly taken to Spain by the Knights of the Temple so that, no matter what, he would survive and be able to continue the great Family of his father. If you wish, I will tell you the true story of their lives, for what is presented to people today is simply a story for the ignorant and blind...
Magdalena with her children - daughter Radomir with her children - son Svetodar and daughter Vesta
and son. Stained glass from the Church of St. Nazar,
Lemoux, Languedoc, France
(St. Nazare, Lemoux, Langedoc)
On these wonderful stained glass windows Radomir and Magdalena with their children - their son
Svetodar and daughter Vesta. Also, here you can see another very interesting
detail - the clergyman standing next to Radomir is dressed in a Catholic uniform
church, which two thousand years ago in no way could have been
well be it. It appeared among priests only in the 11th-12th centuries. Which, again,
proves the birth of Jesus-Radomir only in the 11th century.
I nodded in agreement to North.
– Please tell me the truth... Tell me about them, Sever...
Radomir, anticipating his ambulance
death, sends a nine-year-old
Svetodar to live in Spain... Chu-
there is deep sadness and general
despair.
His thoughts flew far, far away, plunging into ancient, hidden memories covered with the ashes of centuries. And an amazing story began...
– As I already told you earlier, Isidora, after the death of Jesus and Magdalene, their entire bright and sad life was entwined with shameless lies, transferring this lie also to the descendants of this amazing, courageous family... They were “dressed” with ANOTHER FAITH. Their pure images were surrounded by the lives of ALIEN PEOPLE who had not lived for a long time... WORDS that they NEVER SPEAKED were put into their mouths... They were made RESPONSIBLE FOR CRIMES that ANOTHER FAITH, the most deceitful and criminal that existed, had committed and is committing ever on earth...
* * *
From the author: Many, many years have passed since my meeting with Isidora... And now, remembering and living through the former distant years, I managed to find (while in France) the most interesting materials, largely confirming the veracity of Sever's story about the life of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Radomir, which, I think, will be interesting for everyone reading Isidora’s story, and perhaps even help shed at least some light on the lies of “the rulers of this world.” Please read about the materials I found in the “Supplement” after the chapters of Isidora.
* * *
I felt that this whole story was very difficult for the North. Apparently, his broad soul still did not agree to accept such a loss and was still very sick of it. But he honestly continued to talk further, apparently realizing that later, perhaps, I would not be able to ask him anything more.
This stained glass window depicts Magdalene
wife in the form of a Teacher standing over
kings, aristocrats, philosophers
families and scientists...
– Do you remember, Isidora, I told you that Jesus Radomir never had anything to do with that false teaching that the Christian Church is shouting about? It was completely opposite to what Jesus himself taught, and then Magdalene. They taught people real KNOWLEDGE, taught them what we taught them here in Meteora...
And Maria knew even more, since she could freely draw her knowledge from the wide expanses of the Cosmos after she left us. They lived closely surrounded by Sorcerers and gifted ones, whom people later renamed as “apostles”... in the notorious “bible” they turned out to be old, distrustful Jews... who, I think, if they could, would truly betray Jesus a thousand times. His “apostles” in reality were the Knights of the Temple, only not built by human hands, but created by the high thought of Radomir himself - the Spiritual Temple of Truth and Knowledge. At first there were only nine of these knights, and they gathered together in order, to the best of their abilities, to protect Radomir and Magdalena in that foreign and dangerous country for them, into which fate had so mercilessly thrown them. And the task of the Knights of the Temple was also to (if something irreparable happened!) preserve the TRUTH, which these two wonderful, bright people brought to the “lost souls” of the Jews, who gave their Gift and their pure Lives for the peace of their beloved, but still a very cruel planet...
The color of marengo is a subject of debate among many designers, researchers and even historians. His birth dates back to the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century, but has two versions. According to the first, in 1800 a battle took place near Marengo, in which French troops led by Napoleon and Austrian troops took part. The first won, and on this significant day Bonaparte was dressed in a gray overcoat stitched with white threads. The second version says that gray-blue fabrics for sewing outerwear began to be produced at the end of the 18th century in Italy, in a village called Marengo. Since then, fabric of this shade began to bear this name.
Today, the color marengo is very popular both in the world of fashion and in art. It is characterized as black with a grayish tint, or gray, “stitched” with light threads, or even gray with a slight touch of blue. This tone is often called “the embodiment of sea waters before sunset.” It is at the same time simple, widespread and so complex, multifaceted and mysterious. This lies both in its history and in the associations that it evokes upon closer examination.
The color Marengo often appears in various forms and workwear. Such fabric is used to sew things for government officials, for soldiers (in particular, military uniforms, which are recognized as the most advanced of all existing to this day), for sailors and security guards. This shade is preferred by business people. They choose the color marengo for custom tailoring of suits, raincoats, and coats.
Due to the fact that modern fashion is very diverse, this mysterious shade has become widespread in women's wardrobes. Considering it a noble, universal and calm tone, designers have brought to life evening and shorts, jackets, sweaters and even summer sundresses, made in gray and dark blue tones that are not bright. Marengo color has become an excellent basis for swimsuits, eyeglass frames, handbags, women's coats and shawls, tunics and blouses. This shade looks discreet, expensive, aristocratic, so it is often preferred by people who understand fashion and know how to dress.
For such a field as fine arts, the color marengo is also characteristic. A photo of the painting, painted in gray tones with a hint of sea waves, is presented in the article. And, perhaps, such works, as they say, are “not for everyone”; they have their own charm, albeit a little gloomy. After all, according to art critics, it is impossible to remove the theme of shadows, darkness, and a certain sinisterness from creativity. This is exactly how the sky appears before us before rain, and this is how we see the sea on cold days. In conditions of predominantly cloudy weather, the color of marengo is some kind of shade that is a constant companion. And artists simply cannot help but notice it.
When using this shade in clothing or in a painting, it must be diluted. By itself, it does not have much emotional impact, but in combination with certain tones it can form rich compositions. For example, in a duet with scarlet, gray looks incredibly bright, and at the same time restrained and laconic. Marengo color will look innocent and cute in combination with white. Well, if you add notes of turquoise, the color duet will become truly unique and unforgettable.
Few people know that the slightly boring color of marengo will look beautiful, dignified, interesting and noble in the interior. The main thing is to choose the right additional palette for the base shade. It is not necessary to have the skills of a designer, you just need to take into account the recommendations of experts and adhere to your own taste so that the interior pleases the owners and surprises the guests.
Marengo is a complex color. It is characterized as gray of different tones with a blue tint. The undertone is clearly visible in the dark Marengo palette. People compare it to a thundercloud, a sea on the surface of which the blue sky is reflected.
What color is it: other comparisons will help you decide:
- tin,
- silver,
- wet asphalt,
- lead,
- graphite,
- anthracite.
Attention! If you combine the listed shades correctly, the design of the room will turn out to be unusual. The perfection of the unique tone is confirmed by numerous photos.
A little history
An interesting unusual name for the color - “Marengo” appeared in the northern part of Italy, which was famous for the production of woolen fabrics of a dark brown shade with white specks. This is exactly what this tone was originally called. In Russia they called it “chestnut”.
In 1800, the Battle of Marengo took place. Napoleon destroyed the village, and at that moment not only the life of the inhabitants of this settlement completely changed, but also the color characteristics. Napoleon was dressed in a gray overcoat, in honor of which the characteristics of the marengo color changed - melange (also called gray) or black interspersed with light thread.
In the 20s in the Soviet Union, this color was used to sew overcoats for military sailors and police officers. A practical, discreet tone is actively used in modern times for sewing workwear for security guards and military uniforms.
Advantages of color
This palette has many different advantages. It gives the image austerity, and with a certain combination, a comfortable, cozy atmosphere. Some people consider it dull, but this is due to the inability to combine with other tones. When used correctly, it looks picturesque and interesting.
What are the advantages of a style made in Marengo color:
- Originality that is noticeable to others.
- It is an excellent background against which other shades look beautiful.
- If it is the basic tone, then the owners will not have to make frequent repairs to update the interior. It is enough to change a few elements, the curtains and home will take on a new look.
- The Marengo style interior promotes relaxation.
- This palette is fashionable and beautiful.
Marengo colored kitchen
People who keep up with the times are happy to use an unusual palette to decorate their kitchen. The design of the kitchen area becomes practical and reflects luxury.
The base tone can be melange. To prevent the interior from turning into a dark cloud, you need to wisely select kitchen furniture and decorative elements that will create harmony in the design.
- for a successful combination, it is complemented with a tabletop or apron designed to look like stone;
- interior in melange style goes well with natural shades;
- the floor should be light in color;
- on a gray background there must be decorative plates with a golden frame that attract attention.
If the kitchen has marengo gray furniture, then the walls should be snow-white. A wooden tabletop and chairs with a structural wood pattern will effectively complement the decor. The presence of carved chairs would be appropriate.
For reference! If the image of the kitchen space seems boring, it can be complemented with a blue, pink, red, turquoise, and orange palette.
Bedroom in Melange style
Smoky-colored wallpaper with pastel or rich shades is great for decorating a bedroom. The palette is able to calm the nervous system and set you up for relaxation. Even looking at the photo, tension and fatigue are relieved.
To achieve a peaceful, cozy atmosphere in the bedroom, a dark smoky color is combined with the following palette:
- purple,
- blue,
- pink,
- golden;
- light pastel colors.
If you combine the dark color of “wet asphalt” with a palette of burgundy and purple shades, you will get an elegant, strict look. Together with yellow and blue decorative elements, the “gloomy” color will add airiness, lightness, and liveliness to the style.
Snow-white fabric, windows, chandelier, pillows, bedspread go perfectly with dark marengo-colored wallpaper.
Perfect combinations
Marengo color has many shades: dark, light. Their uniqueness is that they go perfectly with warm, cold tones that transform a dull palette.
Successful combinations:
- white will add tenderness to the gray background;
- warm beige, white and gray look harmonious;
- red, light and dark marengo give the style an expensive, intimate feel;
- the dark tone of “wet asphalt” and light green are a guarantee of comfort.
Marengo in different styles
The Marengo palette goes well with many styles. They are:
- classical. It looks very impressive in a kitchen of this style;
- Scandinavian;
- modern;
- Art Deco;
- Provence;
- shabby chic design. it combines gray, pink, lilac, light purple colors;
- retro.
Some people think that it is stupid to decorate rooms in a dull palette, but if you arrange light furniture and choose the right decor, then you can arrange a photo shoot against the backdrop of such an interior. When choosing this palette, you need to remember that it is suitable for decorating spacious rooms. If the room is small, then decorative items from the Marengo palette will add zest to the design. This color option provides an excellent opportunity to add uniqueness to the interior of your home.
How does the color of the Frightened Nymph's Thigh differ from the color of Hellfire, or what colors are there? (part 6)
Magovo-gulafny- red-pink.
Magenta- from Italian bright red, between red and violet (purple-crimson).
Judging by the fact that one of the flowers was named in honor of the Battle of Solferino in 1859. Perhaps the name arose after the battle near Magenta (northern Italy) in 1859. Magenta another battle took place at the same time, perhaps this name arose at the same time.
Chafer- color from red-brown tones with a golden tint.
Poppy color -[most often about the face]. Red poppy color: ruddy, crimson.
Marengo- gray with splashes of black. The name appeared after the Battle of Marengo in 1800. According to some sources, Napoleon's trousers were exactly this color; according to others, locally produced handmade fabrics were mainly dark gray.
Everything, starting with the subjects themselves, was homemade, rye and buckwheat, peas and cabbage; and not just food - the cow dies, the leather is tanned, the shoemaker sews boots for the tailor, while the tailor cuts him a jacket from home-made Marengo-Clair cloth and wide trousers from unbleached canvas.
(A.I. Herzen. Duty first of all. Prologue. Chapter 2. 1854.)
Marengo- originally dark brown, interspersed with white, the color of the fabric produced in the village of Marengo in the North. Italy (hence the name); later black with splashes of white or grey. All R. 18th century in Russian dictionaries Marengo presented as chestnut color - a synonym for brown (translation from French dictionary sources - marengo ou brun). After the victory of the French. Napoleon Bonaparte's army in the battle with the Austrians. troops at
Marengo in 1800 title " Marengo"spread widely, but it gradually began to mean the black color of the fabric with the addition of white or gray thread. This effect echoed a similar feature of homespun fabric, for the manufacture of the cut undyed sheep's wool was used.
This circumstance gave A. I. Herzen the opportunity to express an ironic attitude towards the characters depicted, calling peasant ports made of unbleached canvas trousers, and home-made cloth in dirty shades of French. name Marengo-clair, i.e. light gray.
Marengo-clere- light gray.
The figures in the picture are in Marengo-Clair color.
How men and women perceive colors :)
Marin, marina- the color of a light sea wave, from the French. marine, marine.
Marquise Pompadour- shade of pink. She took an active part in the creation of Sevres porcelain. The rare pink color, obtained as a result of numerous experiments, is named in her honor - Rose Pompadour.
Massaca- dark red with a blue tint. Found in "War and Peace", however, there he is "masaka": "The countess should have worn a masaka velvet dress."
Anton also told a lot about his mistress. Glafira Petrovna: how reasonable and thrifty they were; how a certain gentleman, a young neighbor, was approaching them, often began to visit them, and how they even deigned to wear their festive cap with ribbons in the color of massac and a yellow dress made of tru-tru-Levantine for him.
(I. S. Turgenev. Noble nest. XXI. 1859.)
Massaca(masaka, moussaka) is the name of a dark red with a blue tint or a deep purple color. The origin of the name remains unclear. Known in Russia since the 18th century, but especially popular massaka falls in the 1830s: “Many redingotes are visible, chestnut and masaka in color” (“Rumour”, 1833, No. 43, C 171 - 72).
In this regard, the testimony of A. O. Smirnova-Rosset about her visit together with N. V. Gogol to a bookstore, “where they found thirty volumes, including his works, in moussaka binding,” is interesting. Our bookbinder bound everything very poorly in this color. If he came, people reported that moussaka had arrived” (Diary. Memoirs, M., 1989, p. 65).
In the 2nd half. 19th century, despite the fact that the name " massaka"found in commodity dictionaries of the mid-century (Vavilov I., Reference and Commercial Dictionary, St. Petersburg, 1856, p. 174), the meaning of the term in everyday life was completely forgotten.
In “Memoirs” of A. G. Dostoevskaya (M., 1987, p. 323) about F. M. Dostoevsky we read: “Fyodor Mikhailovich also sometimes made mistakes in colors and did not understand them well. He sometimes named colors whose names had completely disappeared from use, for example, massac color; Fyodor Mikhailovich assured that the color of massac would certainly suit my complexion, and asked me to sew a dress in that color. I wanted to please my husband, and I asked the store for fabric of this color. The merchants were perplexed, and from one old woman (later) I learned that massaka is a deep purple color, and coffins were previously lined with velvet of this color in Moscow.” The custom of using violet, lilac and blue-red colors during mourning was borrowed back in the 18th century. from French funeral court ritual, during which the heirs of the French. throne wore dark purple clothes, the so-called. dauphin color (from the French dauphin - heir to the throne, eldest son of the king).
In Russia, this borrowed custom extended only to wedding clothes and dowry in those families where the marriage took place before the end of the period of mourning, which was customary to observe for up to three years for the closest relatives; These colors also became accepted in the decoration of coffins. Thus, in Dostoevsky’s story “The Eternal Husband,” published in 1870, probably under the impression of his wife’s story about what color massaka and in what cases it was used, we read: “The coffin is lined with masaka-colored velvet.”
Bear (aka bear ear)- dark chestnut shade of brown.
When Chichikov looked sideways at Sobakevich, this time he seemed to him very similar to a medium-sized bear. To complete the similarity, the tailcoat he was wearing was completely bear-colored, his sleeves were long, his trousers were long, he walked with his feet this way and that, constantly stepping on other people’s feet.
(N.V. Gogol. Dead Souls. Volume one, chapter five. 1842.)
"Bear" color- a special shade of brown close to dark chestnut. In the 1st half. 19th century had two most common names: the color “bear ear” (tracing paper from the French oreille d’ours) and the “oreldurs” color (a distorted Russian transcription, which is the basis for the Russian name). Other names "bear" color— Byron’s color, the color “Lord Byron” (on behalf of the English poet). The press reported (“Moscow Telegraph”, 1827, No. 23, p. 151): “In one of the Parisian stores they sell velvet cloaks of Byron’s color (in other words, bear’s ear).”
We find a description of the “Lord Byron” color in magazines for 1825, where it is said that “it looks like dark chestnut” (“Moscow Telegraph”, 1825, No. 23, p. 476). There were many names for shades of brown: “Fashionable tailors ordered manufacturers to prepare cloth of flowers: burnt bread and forest chestnuts or Savoyard with a golden tint” (ibid., 1827, no. 6, p. 103).
Subsequently, the color of “burnt bread” also began to be called the color of “toasted bread” (ibid., 1827, no. 14, p. 61). A few years later, another, darker brown color came into fashion - “burnt coffee” (“Rumor”, 1831, No. 25, p. 16). A lighter shade of brown is “Carmelite” - after the attire of the monks of the Carmelite order (named after Mount Carmel in Palestine, where the seat of the order that settled in Europe after 1245 was).
Milori- dark blue, blue. Trade name for Prussian Blue.
Mov- mauve.
Mordor, Mardor- a red-brown color with a golden tint. The name comes from the French more dore, literally "gilded Moor". This color was especially fashionable in the 1st half of the 19th century.
A young girl with a pretty face was indeed drawn with a hunchback, as I now remember, in some kind of Mordor dress, with a cape, which, however, did not hide her shortcomings.
(D. N. Sverbeev. Notes. Volume 2. 1899.)
Mordor(Mardore) - a reddish shade of brown with a golden tint. Name from French. mordoré - red-brown. Franz. mordoré comes from more doré, lit. - gilded Moor. It was especially fashionable in the 1st half. 19th century and was repeatedly mentioned in the press: “The color of fashionable frock coats is dark - Mordor” (“Moscow Telegraph”, 1827, No. 22). It did not go out of fashion, at least until the 1860s, as it was mentioned in the magazine “Fashion Store” for 1863 (No. 1, p. 10).
A metallic tint was characteristic of many fashionable colors of the 1st floor. 19th century Among them are “Savoyarsky” (“Moscow Telegraph”, 1827, No. 6), “Maybug” (see. Saten-Turk), bronze color. This tint of color is called “with a spark.”
And here the color is also maradore :)
Moscow fire- similar to the color of crushed lingonberries.
Chaadaev stood in front of the table with an expression of horror. He was wearing a long robe, the color of a Moscow fire.
(Yu. N. Tynyanov. Death of Vazir-Mukhtar. Chapter one, 5. 1927)
"Moscow fire" color- a figurative name for a color that does not have a specific prototype in Russian. life of the 1st third of the 19th century. and which is undoubtedly the author's designation. Similar “fantasies” are found in Russian. literature long before Yu. N. Tynyanov, for example. in N.V. Gogol - “Navaro smoke with flames” (see. “Navarino smoke with flame” color), by A.I. Herzen - “the color of crushed lingonberries.”
They were often created based on real-life names - in honor of certain events, literary and theatrical novelties. The reason for creating a new color name could be any incident that occupied the public. For example, the color under the exotic name “Haiti,” according to the Moscow Telegraph (1826, No. 5, p. 42), “... is bright pink and is probably called Haitian because there are great heat waves in Haiti. Any news has an effect on fashionable names. Now in Paris there is a lot of talk about Haiti - and that’s the reason for the name.” At the same time, a bright blue color appeared under the name “Haiti” (ibid., 1826, no. 3, p. 42).
For Tynyanov, the reason for creating Moscow fire colors The Moscow fire of 1812 was quite obviously the cause, which was remembered during the time of A. S. Griboedov, the main character of “Vazir-Mukhtar”. It is difficult to accurately determine the shade of color behind the name with the mention of fire, smoke, flame, fire, etc., due to the complexity of the color combinations that arise. An example is a message about the color of the “bazaar fire” (“Moscow Telegraph”, 1825, No. 9, p. 156): “In memory of the fire that destroyed the vast structure called the Bazaar in Paris: fiery red, dark smoky and bluish yellow - they are called the color of market lights."
Muram, moire- grassy green.
