Fairytale relay races
Relay races at summer camp
Scenario of an event for a summer camp
Children love fairy tales very much. They even want to imitate fairy-tale characters. With them you can hold “fairytale” relay races - half-sports, half-game competitions based on the plots of fairy tales. Relay races are very good to hold on Fairy Tale Day, when you can remember old fairy tales, dramatize them, compose new ones, and learn the songs of your favorite fairy-tale characters. And, of course, hold “fairytale” relay races. When organizing them, it is imperative to remind children of the plots of fairy tales; this will help to better understand the task and make its implementation more emotional. The progress of the relay races should be commented on in a fairytale-fun way, include cheerful fairytale music, and inspire fans to support them. If you don’t forget about this, you’ll end up with a fun, fabulous sports festival.
The Little Humpbacked Horse
It is clear from the name that the participants in this relay race will have to portray the Little Humpbacked Horse from the fairy tale by P. N. Ershov. All you need is a volleyball or a balloon. Participants bend at the waist, take the ball and place it on their back. To prevent the ball from falling during movement, it must be held with your hand, while remaining in a half-bent state. In this relay, the “humpbacked skates” will have to overcome obstacles during the race, for example, stools placed on the relay line, which they will need to climb onto and then jump off, and all this quickly and without losing the “hump” - the ball behind their back . Those “humpbacked skates” who turn out to be more dexterous and swift will win.
Baron Munchausen Core
Remember, Baron Munchausen once walked while riding a cannonball. Invite the children to master this unusual type of “transport”. Their core will be an ordinary balloon, on which “core” is written on the side in bright paint. Participants must ride the core, holding it between their knees and holding it with their hands.
At the signal, in this position, they must make their way to the flag and back. Then the core is passed on to the next player and so on until it becomes clear which team mastered “flying on the core” faster.
Do not forget that if handled carelessly, the balls tend to burst. Warn the guys about this. If the cannonball bursts, the team is eliminated from the game and “mourns the dead cannonballer.”
Puss in Boots
For this relay you will need to find very large boots. Boots are placed on the starting line. The first participant, at the signal, must quickly put them on and just as quickly run to the finish line. But it will be very difficult for him to do this, and not only because the boots are very heavy and uncomfortable. As you remember, Puss in Boots had good manners.
Therefore, you need to put pins along the route. Running past them, each participant must pause and bow, beautiful and original. Having reached the finish line, the participant returns back and gives the boots to the next one). And so the whole team runs. The winners express their joy with a loud and melodious meow.
Rope walker Tibulus
In Yuri Olesha’s fairy tale “Three Fat Men,” the brave Tibul walked on a tightrope. One day he walked along a tight wire over the square directly above the heads of the guards who were shooting at him. In this relay the tightrope walkers will have a little easier time;
no one will shoot, and they are not in danger of falling from a great height and being broken. A rope, i.e. an ordinary rope, can simply be stretched along the ground from start to finish. All players will take turns running along it until the turn, and on the way back they will try to jump the entire distance on one leg. At the same time, you still need to be very careful: each time you put your foot on the rope, and not past it. Otherwise, a “shot” will be heard - the judge’s clap, with which he will warn about the “formidable danger”. The most dexterous "Tybulls" will bring victory to their team.
Fox Alice and cat Basilio
What distinguishes these characters from A. Tolstoy’s fairy tale “The Adventures of Pinocchio”? They know how to pretend. The fox pretended that she was lame, and the cat pretended that he was blind. The relay participants will have to pretend to be scammers. At the start, the teams are divided into pairs. One in each pair is the fox Alice, the other is the cat Basilio. The one who portrays the fox bends one leg at the knee and holds it with his hand, thus standing on one leg. The participant portraying the cat Basilio is blindfolded. “Fox” puts his free hand on the “cat’s” shoulder, and at a signal, this couple overcomes the relay distance, returns and passes the baton to the next participants.
Frog traveler
In the fairy tale, the frog forced the ducks to take a stick in their beaks, and she, clinging to it with her paws, took off with the flock. In this relay, the participants will have to do almost the same thing. The two strongest participants from the team take a gymnastic stick and place it on their shoulders. The third one takes the stick with his hands, lifts his legs off the ground and thus turns out to be a “frog traveler.” Now, at the signal, all three begin to move forward. The player who is hanging on the stick must absolutely not touch the ground with his feet. When the “ducks with a frog” reach the finish line, the participant hanging on the stick unhooks, and his other two comrades return to the start to take the new “traveler”. And so on until the whole team reaches the finish line.
Balda and the horse
In the well-known fairy tale by A. S. Pushkin, Balda participated, one might say, in sports competitions. His opponents were devils. Carrying out one of the tasks that the old devil came up with, he had to carry off the horse. But Balda jumped on his horse and shouted to the imp: “Look, I’m carrying the horse between my legs!”
To conduct the relay, all participants are divided into threes. Two of them will portray a horse, and the third participant, naturally, will be Balda. The horse is easy to make. The first participant bends at the waist, and the second, also bending down, takes the first by the waist. That's all. All that remains is for “Balda” to saddle the “horse”, and you can set off to pass the baton to the next three. Well, which Badda will bring victory to the team will be shown by the results of the competition.
Dragon
This fabulous creature, as you know, has three heads, four legs and two wings. It’s not difficult to make the Serpent Gorynych: three participants stand side by side, put their hands on each other’s belts or shoulders, the legs of the participant standing in the middle are tied to the legs of the partners standing on the sides - it’s like four legs. At the signal, “Serpent Gorynych” begins to move, and the participants standing on the sides must perform movements with their hands that resemble flapping wings. Having reached (jumped, flown) to the finish line, the troika turns around, returns and passes the baton to the next participants. It is better to tie the legs of all threes before the start of the relay. The team that finishes the relay the fastest wins.
Dunno in a hot air balloon
It is known that Dunno from the fairy tale "Dunno and His Friends" flew with his friends to the Flower City in a hot air balloon. Everyone probably knows how a hot air balloon works. As the air cools in the balloon from the gondola (basket under the balloon ) the ballast is thrown out. In our relay race, an ordinary bucket will serve as a basket. We will put ballast in it: balls, skittles, cubes, etc. The number of objects should be equal to the number of relay participants. A hot air balloon is perfect for the role of a balloon.
Start! With a bucket and a ball, the player runs to the finish line, where a pre-positioned hoop is located. The player, having reached the goal, places one item from the bucket into the hoop, i.e., “lightens the basket.” Returning to the team, he will pass the bucket and ball to the next participant. He, in turn, does the same. Thus, by the end of the relay race, all items from the bucket must be placed in the hoop. The last participant must collect them again into the bucket and return to the team.
Baba Yaga
The indispensable attributes of Baba Yaga were a stupa and a broom. In the relay race, you can use an empty bucket as a mortar, and a mop as a broom. The participant stands with one foot in the bucket, the other remains on the ground. He holds a mop with one hand. And now in this position it is necessary to go the entire distance and pass the “mortar” and “broom” to the next one.
Kolobok
Everyone remembers that in the fairy tale of the same name, Kolobok deftly bypassed the Hare, Bear and Wolf, but fell into the Fox’s mouth. In the relay, the first three animals will be replaced by pins, and the last by a bucket. Each participant will roll (kick) their “Kolobok” (soccer ball) between the pins. Having brought the ball to the bucket, the participant must, without using his hands, throw the ball into the bucket, i.e. send the “Kolobok” into the mouth of the “Fox”. After the Kolobok ball ends up in the bucket, the participant takes it out with his hands and quickly runs to the next player so that he can also go through all the obstacles with his Kolobok.
Dr. Aibolit
The good doctor Aibolit began treatment by placing thermometers on his patients. So in this relay race the participants will have to set thermometers for each other. But not real ones - they will be replaced by ordinary skittles or other objects that look like them. Before the start of the relay, the team lines up in a column at the starting line. The first participant stands with a bucket and a bag filled with skittles. The number of pins is two less than the number of participants.
At a signal, the first “Aibolit” runs with a bucket to a certain mark and returns. It was he who made the way to Africa. Upon his return, he takes out the skittles from the bucket and places them in turn for all participants, like thermometers, i.e., under each participant’s armpit. Except the last one. He gives the bucket to the latter, but he himself goes aside and leaves the game.
The participant who received the bucket (bag) quickly collects the pins from the team and again does what the first player did. You can’t drop the pins on the ground, remember that thermometers are in short supply, and if you drop them, pick them up immediately. The relay ends when there is only one “Aibolit” left, returning from “Africa”, and not a single patient.
Cinderella
Cinderella was hardworking and never sat idle for a minute. The participants in this relay will also have to work hard. To do this, you need to prepare in advance a bucket, a broom and a dustpan, as well as five cubes for each team. The team is divided into two equal halves. One stands at the start line, the other at the finish line, facing each other. On the one hand, the participants will be “Cinderellas”, and on the other, “evil stepmothers”. The first “Cinderella” holds a bucket, broom and dustpan in her hands. There are five cubes scattered along the line of movement from start to finish - “garbage”. The first participant moves forward, collecting cubes into a bucket along the way. At the same time, you cannot help yourself with your hands. That is, each time you need to put the bucket on the ground, sweep the cube onto the scoop with a broom, then from the scoop into the bucket. When all the cubes are collected, “Cinderella” hands over the bucket with cubes, a broom and a dustpan to the “stepmother,” i.e., the team member standing opposite.
The “stepmother,” as befits an evil and harmful stepmother, scatters cubes along the entire line of movement. The new “Cinderella,” to whom the “stepmother” hands over the tools, will again have to collect garbage. And this “disgrace” continues until both groups change places.
Teremok
First, let's remember who lived in the little house: Mouse-norushka, Frog-frog, Bunny-jumping, Little fox-sister, and Koman-squeak. The Bear came sixth and destroyed the tower. Let's try to play out this fairy tale in a relay race. Only six people will participate in it - the number of characters in the fairy tale. And the role of the tower will be played by the hoop. “Mouse” starts the relay race. The participant playing this role, at the signal, runs to the finish line, where the hoop - “teremok” - lies. Having reached, he threads the hoop through himself, puts it in place and runs after the next participant, i.e. the “Frog”. Now they run to the “teremka” together, always holding hands. Having arrived, the two of them climb through the hoop without releasing their hands. Having done this, they run after the third, then the fourth, then the fifth. When five, without unclenching their hands, thread the hoop through themselves and run after the sixth one, it turns out to be “Bear”. But they still take him by the hand and lead him with them to the “tower.” Five people put on the hoop and hold it at waist level. At this time, the “Bear” takes the hoop with his hand and pulls it, along with all the participants inside, towards the start. Those inside the hoop run to help the Bear. Whoever “tells” the plot of this tale faster wins.
The wolf and the seven Young goats
According to the fairy tale, seven kids were locked in the house, but a wolf tricked their way into the house and ate the kids. The homes for this relay will be the two halves of the volleyball court. One half is the home of the “goats” of one team, the second half is the home of the other team. Each team must choose seven “kids” and one “wolf”. The “kids” immediately occupy their homes and settle down in them as they please. At the signal, both “wolves” enter the house of the opposing team and begin to catch the “kids”. The one who is caught (touched by hand) leaves the site (he is eaten). The team whose “wolf” ate all the “goats” the fastest is the winner. The “goats” in this relay game can run away from the “wolf”, but cannot leave the house, that is, jump out of the area.
Note. Fairytale relay races can be used when organizing a sporting event, or you can use this option: hold them one per day throughout the entire camp shift. To do this, the rules for the relay are posted in a special information corner two days before the relay. Units will have to prepare:
Inventory;
Costumes.
To increase the time you need to spend on it, you can:
Increase the number of items to collect;
Increase the distance you need to walk.
In addition, the units are assigned (each in turn)
(see table):
Table continuation
1. General preparation.
2. Preparation of Inventory.
3. Appearance (costumes).
4. Speed of execution.
5. Behavior.
Stage a fairy tale or a short excerpt from it (you can do it in a new way or include songs and dances);
Prepare a quiz about a fairy tale (7 questions);
Announce the rules for this relay race.
All this is controlled by one main organizer and assessed by a certain jury, preferably not changing.

The player takes 2 caps from a one and a half liter bottle from the bucket and runs to the chair. He puts the covers on the chair. Returns
back. The next participant runs. Thus, the guys must build a castle for Thumbelina on a chair.
Three fat men
The presenter invites the children to prepare a dish for the Three Fat Men, for example, vinaigrette. A bucket with cards is placed in front of the team, on which the ingredients of this dish are written (beets, carrots, potatoes, onions, cabbage, vegetable oil, salt, pickled cucumbers) and others. Each participant takes one card, runs to a chair, puts it down and runs to the team, then the next participant. After the game, the host reads out what the teams used to prepare the vinaigrette.

In Yuri Olesha’s fairy tale “Three Fat Men,” the brave Tibul walked on a tightrope. One day he walked along a tight wire over the square directly above the heads of the guards who were shooting at him. In this relay the tightrope walkers will have a little easier time;
no one will shoot, and they are not in danger of falling from a great height and being broken.
In a relay race, you can use an empty bucket as a mortar and a mop as a broom.
On the one hand, the participants will be “Cinderellas,” and on the other, “evil stepmothers.” The first “Cinderella” holds a bucket, broom and dustpan in her hands.
The participant playing this role, at the signal, runs to the finish line, where the hoop lies - the “teremok”.
— inventory;
- costumes.
To increase the time you need to spend on it, you can:
— increase the number of items that need to be collected;
- increase the distance you need to walk.
In addition, the units are assigned (each in turn)
(see table):
Table continuation
1. General preparation.
2. Preparation of Inventory.
3. Appearance (costumes).
4. Speed of execution.
5. Behavior.
- dramatize a fairy tale or a short excerpt from it (you can do it in a new way or include songs and dances);
— prepare a quiz about a fairy tale (7 questions);
- announce the rules for this relay race.
All this is controlled by one main organizer and assessed by a certain jury, preferably not changing.

Annex 1
Scenario "The Tale of a Turnip."
This comic tale can be acted out without prior rehearsal. The texts should be prepared in advance and distributed to the participants before the performance, with each person playing a role. To prevent grandfather from getting confused, we put paper “hats” with images of carrots, potatoes on the participants’ heads...
Leading:
Grandfather planted a turnip... Grandfather said to the turnip:
Grandfather:
You grow, grow big. Become a rich harvest, so that I can be proud of you. I’ll bring you some water, five buckets of fertilizer... Oh, I’m tired, it’s time to sleep.
(Lies down near the turnip and falls asleep.)
Leading:
Grandpa sleeps without worries. Meanwhile, the turnip grows and fights with the weeds: With their feet and hands... It’s already autumn in the yard. On a chilly morning in September, my grandfather woke up and got scared.
(Grandfather wakes up and jumps from the cold, his teeth chattering.)
Grandfather: Oh, I'm old and overslept. It's time to pull the turnip. I've grown up, I look a little. Oh, yes, the turnip is born! I never dreamed of such a thing.
(Grabs a turnip and pulls.)
Leading:
Grab it, but the turnip was indignant.
Carrot:
What a clumsy old man! I'm not a turnip, I'm a carrot. You clearly haven't washed your eyes. Turnips I'm a hundred times slimmer. And more orange too. If you need a Korean salad, you will be lost without me... You can’t drink carrot juice, there is no substitute for me in soup... And one more secret. I am rich in vitamins, all beneficial carotene. I am a great harvest!
Grandfather:
Well, get into the basket. What is this, what a miracle, Maybe I didn’t sleep well? I sowed turnips in the spring. Okay, my friend, wait, I’ll pull out another turnip.
Potato:
Oh, oh, oh, I protest! I'm not a turnip. I am Potato! Even the cat knows this. I am the head of all fruits. It’s as clear as two and two: If there are no potatoes in the soup, there’s no point in picking up a spoon. I heard that for chips, grandfather, the most important component. In hot oil, look, I can become French fries. I am your main harvest!
Grandfather:
Well, get into the basket. I'll go down the turnip again. How tightly it sits in the earth! Oh yes turnip, here you go!
Cabbage:
Really, I'm outraged! Grandfather, you ate too many Snickers, you watched enough TV series, maybe you fell off the stove? Once I didn’t recognize cabbage. I don't look like a turnip. She has one clothes, I have a hundred of them! Everything without buttons... Otherwise... I am crispy cabbage! Without me, the salad is empty, but with me, any lunch, cabbage roll or vinaigrette... It will become 10 times healthier! And then, my dear, I can be fermented and salted... And stored until summer. You can eat me all winter!
Grandfather:
You are welcome...to the basket. What kind of miracles are these? I spent almost two hours in the garden. Where is the turnip! This one seems...
Beet:
Again the grandfather did not guess correctly. Did you lose your glasses, or did the demon mislead you? I confused beets with turnips. I am a hundred times redder than her, and healthier and tastier! There are no beets and no borscht, in the vinaigrette and in the cabbage soup... I alone am the source of color! And the beetroot cutlet is simply delicious! One hundred percent - weight loss. I am a great harvest!
Grandfather:
Well, get into the basket. And there will be a place for you. But I still wonder: where is the turnip? Maybe this one?
Onion:
I'm almost the same color, but not a turnip, old man, I'm your onion!
He may be a little cunning, but he is popular among the people. The most delicious kebab is the one with onion in it. All housewives know me, they add me to soup and porridge, pies, mushrooms, broth... I am a nightmare for viruses! Even the flu scares me... At least now I’m ready to fight. I am a great harvest!
Grandfather:
Well, get into the basket. The evening is already coming to an end. The moon is coming out in the sky. Yes, it’s time for me to go home. Tomorrow morning I’ll start looking for turnips again, and now I want to sleep. Wow, heavy basket. A car would come in handy... The harvest has grown handsomely! Grandma, come on, the curtain has come, The fairy tale has come to an end. Well done to whoever listened. We expect applause from you, and other compliments... After all, the artists tried their best, even if they were a little confused.

The presenter conducts games and relay races.
Relay races for grades 1-4.
"Dragon"
Teams are divided into 3 people and tied with a belt around the waist. We must jump together to the finish line and back.
"The Little Humpbacked Horse"
Putting a basketball on your back (at the level of your waist) and holding it with your hands, run to the finishing cube, climb onto it, make your horse neigh and run back to the start.
The first participant - the grandfather - runs to the finish line and back, the second - the grandmother - joins him, holding the waist, and now they run together. Then the third one joins - the granddaughter, and then all the heroes of the fairy tale.
"Munchausen Core"
The players' task: holding a basketball between their knees, run to the finish line, throw the ball up, catch it, shout: “I am Baron Munchausen!” - and, holding the ball in your hand, return to the start.
"Alice the Fox and Basilio the Cat"
Teams are divided into 2 people. “The Cat” puts on a patch over one eye and large slippers on his feet. “Fox” takes the “cat” by the shoulder with one hand. So they cover the distance to the finish line, where the “fox” takes 5 coins from the finishing cube. The other pair returns the coins to their place.
"Frog traveler"
Teams are divided into 3 people. Two children put a stick on their shoulders and hold it with their hands. The third - a frog - hangs by his hands, legs crossed. You need to quickly walk to the finish line and go back, going around the cube. The “frog” should croak while moving.
"Cinderella"
Teams are divided into 2 people. The first is “stepmother”. She takes the basket of cubes, runs to the finishing cube and scatters the cubes on it. Then he returns and gives the basket to the second player - “Cinderella”. She runs, collects the cubes in a basket and brings them to the next pair of players.
Relay races for grades 5-11
Three ball run
At the starting line, the first person conveniently takes 3 balls (football, volleyball and basketball). At the signal, he runs with them to the turning flag and places the balls near it. It comes back empty. The next participant runs empty to the lying balls, picks them up, returns with them back to the team and, not reaching 1 m, places them on the floor.
- instead of large balls, you can take 6 tennis balls,
- instead of running - jumping.
Two teams of 6 children each participate. This is grandfather, grandmother, Bug, granddaughter, cat and mouse. There are 2 chairs on the opposite wall of the hall. On each chair there is a turnip - a child wearing a hat with a picture of a turnip.
Grandfather starts the game. At a signal, he runs to the turnip, runs around it and returns, the grandmother clings to him (takes him by the waist), and they continue running together, again go around the turnip and run back, then the granddaughter joins them, etc. At the end of the game, The mouse is caught by a turnip. The team that pulled out the turnip the fastest wins.
Porters
Ball race underfoot
Players are divided into 2 teams. The first player throws the ball back between the players' spread legs. The last player of each team bends down, catches the ball and runs forward with it along the column, stands at the beginning of the column and again sends the ball between his spread legs, etc. The team that finishes the relay the fastest wins.
I passed it on - sit down!
Porters
4 players (2 from each team) stand on the starting line. Everyone gets 3 large balls. They must be carried to the final destination and returned back. It is very difficult to hold 3 balls in your hands, and picking up a fallen ball without outside help is also not easy. Therefore, porters have to move slowly and carefully (the distance should not be too great). The team that completes the task faster wins.
Ball race underfoot
Players are divided into 2 teams. The first player throws the ball back between the players' spread legs. The last player of each team bends down, catches the ball and runs forward with it along the column, stands at the beginning of the column and again sends the ball between his spread legs, etc. The team that finishes the relay faster wins.
Three jumps
Participants are divided into two teams. Place a jump rope and a hoop at a distance of 8-10 m from the start line. After the signal, the first person, having reached the rope, takes it in his hands, makes three jumps on the spot, puts it down and runs back. The second person takes the hoop and makes three jumps through it and alternates between the jump rope and the hoop. The team that finishes it faster will win.
Prohibited movement
I passed it on - sit down!
The players are divided into several teams, 7-8 people each, and line up behind the common starting line in a column, one at a time. Captains stand in front of each column, facing it at a distance of 5-6 m. The captains receive a volleyball. At the signal, each captain passes the ball to the first player in his column. Having caught the ball, this player returns it to the captain and crouches. The captain throws the ball to the second, then third and subsequent players. Each of them, returning the ball to the captain, crouches. Having received the ball from the last player in his column, the captain raises it up, and all the players on his team jump up. The team whose players complete the task faster wins.
Bring me a piece of paper
You need to prepare 2 sheets of paper (you can use it from a notebook) The players are divided into two teams, which line up parallel to one another. The first player of each team is given a piece of paper on their palm. During the game, the sheet should lie on its own in the palm of your hand - it should not be held in any way. The first players from each team run to the flag. If a leaf suddenly falls to the ground, you need to pick it up, put it on your palm and continue on your way. Having reached his team, the player must quickly transfer the leaf to the right palm of the next comrade in line, who immediately runs forward. Meanwhile, the first one moves to the end of the row. This continues until the turn reaches the first one. The team that completes the task faster wins.
Running on the clouds
For this game you will need five representatives from each team. Place participants in a row and tie two inflated balloons to each participant's right and left leg (4 balloons per person). On command, the first participants set off - their task is to run to the end of the distance marker and return back, passing the baton to the next member of their team. Each burst balloon earns the team one penalty point.
Jumpers
Children are divided into two teams and line up in columns one after the other. Following the leader’s signal, the participants of each team perform a jump, pushing off with both feet. The first one jumps, the second one stands at the place where the first one jumped, and jumps further. When all players have jumped, the leader measures the entire length of the jumps of the first and second teams. The team that jumped further wins.
Pass the ball
Children are divided into two teams. The players of each team line up one after another in a column. The first participants hold a ball in their hands. Following the leader's signal, the first player on each team passes the ball to the one behind him, overhead. The last person on the team, having received the ball, runs to the beginning of the column, stands first and passes the ball to the next person behind him, also over his head. And so on until the first one returns to its place. The team that finishes the game first wins.
Aerial kangaroos
Divide participants into teams and ask participants to stand one behind the other. Give each team a balloon. The first participant holds the balloon between his knees and, like a kangaroo, jumps with it until the end of the distance marker. Returning back in the same way, he passes the ball to the next player, etc. The winner is the team whose players finish the relay first.
