Ii international festival-competition of children and youth creativity "bongiorno, san-remo! San Remo Italian Song Festival First San Remo competition in what year.
Coming soon 62nd festival of italian song, which will be held at the Ariston theater
There is hardly a person who has not heard of the International Song Festival,
held annually in the Italian city of San Remo.
Italy is not subject to Baroque architecture, it is Italian painting of the Renaissance. Italy is a fairy tale about Chippolino and Pinocchio, which not only we, but our children and grandchildren fell in love with. Italy is a unique Italian cuisine, fashion shows in Milan, films with the participation of Marcello Mastroianni, Sophia Loren, Juliet Masini, Adriano Celentano. Italy is a sea of sun and soulful songs, the sounds of which have reached our country thanks to the wonderful San Remo music festival, which is annually held in the small Italian town of the same name. All celebrities - Domenico Modugno, Adriano Celentano, Toto Cutugno, Al Bano and Romina Power, Riccardo Fogli, Gianni Morandi, Lucho Dalla, Eros Ramazzotti, Matia Bazar and many, many others - have appeared on the mirror stage of the Ariston Theater at different times.
The San Remo festival was first held in 1952 and almost immediately won the status of the most talented and beautiful pop competition in Europe. The combination of many factors, including the charming aesthetics of the Italian language, and the amazing charm with the exquisite outfits of the performers, and the feeling of the warm Mediterranean climate, and the memorability of light, positive melodies - all this has created an aura of one of the most prestigious and stylish music festivals around this music festival. the world. Many internationally recognized stars today owe their popularity to San Remo.
The war is over ... Life with its colors quickly made all recent horrors recede into the background. Literally immediately, the idea of holding a national song festival was born in Italy. The first such event took place in 1948 at the entertainment center of Capannini di Francesca. However, two years later, in 1950, the festival did not take place due to financial reasons. The idea nevertheless liked Pierre Bucetti, the director of the casino in San Remo, so much that he, together with his friend Giulio Razzi, breathed into it new life.
And the history of the popular event began on January 29, 1951 at a local casino. It was here that the festival took place until 1977, and then moved to the Ariston Theater. Television did not exist at that time, and this prevented the competition from being held on a cruise ship, which could not provide a high-quality radio signal. The competition was then broadcast by the second Italian radio program.
Then the situation in the "Salon delle Feste" was far from what many are used to seeing now. Spectators sat at tables and were served by waiters, and artists performed on stage. Actually, the situation was similar to that in Capannini. For three days the festival was attended by only three participants with twenty songs. Twin sisters Dolphin and Dina made a duet Fasano, they were opposed by Achille Tagliani and Nilla Pizzi. The first two days were semifinals, ten songs got into the final, which came on January 31st. In the end, the winner was Nilla Pizzi with the song "Thank you for the flowers." Later she will say: “I was born in 1951 in San Remo. Before that, I did not exist. "
Then this event did not cause an international response, and the record companies reacted weakly - only two weeks after the end of the festival, the first printed copies of the concert appeared, in total about eighty thousand of them were sold. This is due to the rather modest atmosphere around the competition. It is curious that in the same 1951 the musical "Sensation in San Remo" was released, which, although it had nothing to do with the festival, generated a wave of interest both in the city and in the event held in it.
The following year, Nilla Pizzi won again, taking two other prizes. Some of the singer's numbers were devoted to political topics. The 1953 festival brought its first scandal: Deani, the author of the song "Drummer of the Regiment", was accused of plagiarism. It was then in the history of the festival that the first real competition arose, during which the same Pizzi ceded his throne to Carla Boni.
In 1954, the festival was first shown on television, albeit on record. And already next year, eight million Italians were able to watch the festival in San Remo live. That year, more than four hundred songs claimed victory, but only sixteen of them made it to the final.
The late fifties and sixties made the festival famous, this is the golden time for San Remo. The competition is attended not only by Italians, but also since 1964 - world stars. In 1960, the number of TV viewers reaches thirty million! And in 1961, Celentano made his scandalous debut here, demonstratively turning his back to the audience during his performance. The 1967 festival was in jeopardy after one of the participants, Luigi Tenco, committed suicide after removing his song from the competition.
The seventies brought a recession to the festival, which was also associated with the crisis in the country's economy. The best performers do not come to San Remo, and only the final evening can be seen on TV. But in 1970, the long-awaited victory here was won by Adriano Celentano, who sang the song "Chi non lavora non fa l'amore" with his wife Claudia Mori. 1975 was perhaps the most difficult year in the life of the festival. Of the thirty contestants, twenty-six were newcomers, only forty-five thousand records were sold, and the jury members were chosen at random from the phone book.
In the eighties, the festival becomes more like a TV show than a competition. It is believed that it was then that the era of the renaissance of San Remo opened. The 1980 festival was won by rising Italian pop star Toto Cutugno. Three years later, he was already the favorite, but to the surprise of many, his hit "L'Italiano" took only fifth place. That year, for the first time, a spectator vote was also held, which gave Toto an unconditional first place. At this time, San Remo came to television screens in the USSR. At first it was a small block in the program “Melodies and Rhythms of Foreign Stage”, and in 1984 a separate hour-long program appeared. The success of the broadcasts exceeded all expectations, people demanded and demanded to repeat their favorite songs. Fragments from San Remo 84 were inserted wherever possible, they were so popular. And in the country there was a real boom in Italians and their festival. Concerts of the participants of San Remo took place in Moscow and Leningrad. The halls were naturally overcrowded.
In 1986, the festival was won by Eros Ramazzotti, although there was a scandal here too - the singer Loredana Berti and her two dancers imitated pregnancy on stage with the help of fake false bellies. In the nineties, more and more Western guests took part in San Remo, for example, in 1998, the Bextrite Boys and Ricky Martin were visiting here. In 2000, Tina Turner, Sting, Bono, Eurhythmics and Robbie Williams appeared here.
2001 and 2002 were marked for the first time by the participation in the competition of fourteen and fifteen-year-old minors Gazzosa and Anna Tatangelo. In 2005 the festival was held according to a new formula. Now the participants competed in four categories: men, women, classics and groups, and the winner was chosen from the leaders of these groups by voting. Soon there were only two categories left - youth and adult. The popularity of the festival also attracted close attention of the police: according to rumors, the organizers demanded up to fifty thousand euros for participation in the competition.
Perhaps the festival in San Remo can be called the soul of Italy. It flourished and faded along with the whole country, it was not without scandals and impulsive changes. The presenters made risky jokes, even the orchestras rioted from time to time. However, like Italy in general, the Sanremo festival is always ready to make guests feel welcome.
Winner of the 61st of the Italian Song Festival in 2011 in Sanremo became Roberto Vecchioni(Roberto Vecchioni), who performed the song on the stage of the legendary theater "Ariston" "Chiamami ancora amore"(Call me lover again). The name of the winner was traditionally determined by viewers by voting on the air of the First Channel of the Italian state television.
Vecchioni was born in 1943. He began his musical career as a songwriter in the 60s of the last century. In 1968 the song "Sera" (Evening), written by Vecchioni, was even in the competition program of the San Remo festival.
In 1971 he wrote the lyrics to the anthem for the Milan football club Inter, and in the same year Vecchioni's first album, Parabola, was released. Two years later, the musician again takes part in the popular Italian song competition. This time he acts as a composer and performer of his own song, but does not reach the final.
Real popularity came to Vecchioni in 1977 with the song "Samarcanda" (Samarkand) from the album of the same name. In total, during his career, the singer has released 26 albums, the last of which was released in 2011.

According to the magazine "Ogonyok", in last years the number of its spectators ranges from 8 to 12 million people, moreover, most of the guests of the festival are visitors from other countries, including from Russia.

The Italian "sharks of the pen" claim: the career of any performer of a popular song in the country begins with San Remo. Throughout the history of its existence, the San Remo Festival has opened the doors to the world of music and fame for more than one dozen musicians. Andrea Bocelli, Adriano Celentano, Eros Ramazzotti and Toto Cutugno became famous precisely because of one successfully performed song in a town called San Remo.
Pages of history
The Second World War brought grief not only to countries that suffered from Nazi aggression. Italy, which supported Hitler, who had lost this war, paid no less price. The devastation, economic collapse and rejection from the winning countries shocked the country. But the years passed, the horrors of the war years receded into the background, life took its toll, and the Italian soul wanted to sing again ... The idea to hold a song festival arose almost immediately after the war. The harbinger of the well-known Festival of Italian Song in San Remo was the National Song Festival held by La Campannina in 1948 at its own entertainment complex Capannini di Francesca in Versilia. True, financial problems led to the fact that already in 1950 the competition did not take place. Nevertheless, the idea was liked by the director of a small casino in San Remo, Pierre Bucetti, who, together with Giulio Razzi, revived the song festival.
And the new history of the world famous event begins on January 29, 1951, in the casino headed by Bucetti. The Kazno-Municipal building was built by Ferret in 1905 and was called Kursaal. Theatrical performances, concerts and festivals took place within the walls of the legendary casino. Although in those days the building was not yet a gambling house. It was only on January 21, 1928 that Kursaal began to gamble. This happened before the war itself. Pierre Bucetti breathed new life into the Casino-Municipal, saving it from devastation: the Song Festival in San Remo was held there until 1977, and only then "moved" to the Ariston Theater.
The very first Festival of Italian Song was held in San Remo from January 20 to January 31, 1951 at the Festival Salon (Salone della Feste) of the Bucetti casino. Of course, this event did not at all resemble that pompous and colorful Festival in San Remo, familiar to contemporaries. The contestants sang songs from the stage, and the audience sat at the tables, around which the waiters scurried about serving drinks. The festival was broadcast only on the second radio channel, and only three contestants took part in it: Achille Tagliani, the duet of Fasano and Neil Pizzi. On the first two evenings, each contestant sang ten songs, and the audience chose the best ones. On January 31, 10 songs were performed in the final, the best of which was "Thank you for the flowers" by Nilla Pizzi .
It should be noted that the first song festival in San Remo did not receive recognition abroad, and the country's record companies reacted very sluggishly. A few days after the end of the competition, about 80,000 printed copies of the concert appeared. Success came "from where they did not expect." In the same 1951, a musical film called "Sensation in San Remo" was released on television with the participation of Marika Rökk. Although the film had nothing to do with the song festival, it sparked a wave of interest in it.
In 1952, the victory was again celebrated by Neela Pizzi, she also took the two remaining prizes. 1953 brought the first scandal at the Song Festival in San Remo: the author of the song "Drummer of the Regiment" Deani was accused of plagiarism. Only this year, for the first time, there was a real struggle for victory at the competition, during which Pizzi lost to Carla Boni.
The next year became a landmark for the festival held in San Remo: the song contest was shown on television for the first time (albeit in the recording). But already in 1955, millions of Italians watched the song festival live. Out of more than four hundred songs, only 16. I must say that the end of the 50s - 60s became the golden period in the history of the festival. Already in 1960, the number of TV viewers reached 30 million, and in 1961 the scandalous debut of Adriano Celentano, who spoke with his back to the audience, took place. Since 1964, world stars have taken part in the competition program of the festival in San Remo.
But already 1967 became a tragic page in history: after the withdrawal of his song from the competition, Luigi Tenko committed suicide. The festival of that year was in jeopardy, and the next 70s became crisis ones. The general downturn in the global economy has affected culture, best performers refused to participate in the festival, and television broadcast only the final of the competition. Nevertheless, 1970 was a triumphant year for the song "He who does not work, he does not make love", performed by the spouses Adriano Celentano and Claudia Mori. Perhaps the most difficult year for the Festival of Italian Song in San Remo was the year 1975: 26 out of 30 competitors were newcomers, only 45,000 records found buyers, and the jury members were chosen at random using a phone book.
The "Renaissance" for the song festival began in the eighties, when the format of the event began to resemble a TV show. So, in 1980, the then beginning singer Toto Cutugno won the victory with the song "Only we". True, in that year the songs were performed "under the plus" (music in the recording) or even "under the veneer". In 1983, Cutugno entered the stage as a favorite, but his hit "Italian" took only fifth place.
1984 was the first year when performers were divided into two groups: famous singers and "new voices". It was at this time that the Italian song festival burst into the vastness of the USSR. First, the TV show "Melodies and Rhythms of Foreign Stage" devoted a separate section to the festival in San Remo, and in 1984 an hour-long edition was released on Soviet screens. His success exceeded all expectations: people wrote thousands of letters on television asking to show the songs of Italian performers. It was a real boom!
1986 brought victory to Eros Ramazzotti. But even here it was not without a scandal: one of the contestants, together with the dancers, hooked their bellies and imitated pregnancy. The live performance was restored in 1990. In addition, the 90s brought foreign stars to the Italian stage again. So, in 1998 Ricky Martin and the Backstreet Boys sang in San Remo, and in 2000 - Sting, Tina Turner and Robbie Williams.
In 2005, the number of nominations for the Italian Song Festival was expanded to four: women, men, groups and classics. But already in 2007, the organizers returned to the previous scheme: newcomers and accomplished performers. And in 2011, in San Remo, they again began to elect a performer who will represent Italy at Eurovision.
Modernity
In recent decades, the Italian Song Festival has been held annually in late February - early March in the town of San Remo. The competition itself is not a competition of performers, but of original songs written by Italian composers. The main condition is that the song must not be performed in public before the start of the festival. Since 2005, the winner is determined by a mixed vote of a professional jury and TV viewers. At one time (in 1955) the San Remo Song Festival became the benchmark for the Eurovision Song Contest. Now the Italian competition is broadcast on Eurovision channels, being one of the most significant events in Italy, causing a huge amount of controversy and controversy.
Forgetting facts and statistics, the Song Festival in San Remo can be safely called the soul of Italy. Together with the state, it flourished and faded, newfangled trends and scandals did not bypass the competition, the presenters joked ambiguously, and the guests and contestants turned their performances into rallies, even the orchestras rebelled here ... Nevertheless, the San Remo festival continues to exist, moving into in the same direction with Italy, and, like several decades ago, young people, not only in body, but also in soul, come here just to sing.

The 17th Festival was held from 26 to 28 January 1967. The hosts were Mike Bongiorno and Renata Mauro. The orchestra was led in shifts by 25 conductors. The first place was won by the song Non pensare a me("Don't Think About Me") performed by Claudio Villas and Willows Zanikki.
Famous foreign performers performed at the festival - Anna Herman, Connie Francis, Marian Faithfull, British band The Hollies, popular duet Sonny and Cher(the singer also performed solo). None of them made it to the finals.
TRAGEDY IN SAN REMO AT NIGHT ON JANUARY 28
January 26 at the Festival is extremely reluctant with his song Ciao amore ciao performed by a popular composer, poet and singer Luigi Tenco... She performed the same song and Delilah... It was she who managed to convince Tenko to expose Ciao amore ciao to the competition. The composer himself did not consider it worthy to participate in the Festival. And he was right. The song did not make it to the final, taking only 12th place as a result of the vote. Wherein La rivoluzione Gianni Pettenati, whom Tenko considered much worse than his own, managed to get into the final, taking the last 14th place in it. This left the composer depressed. He left the Casino and locked himself in his room at the Savoy Hotel.
There he was discovered by Delilah. There was a bullet hole in Luigi Tenko's head. And in his hand was a suicide note. Later, an examination established that the author was Tenko himself. The composer expressed his disappointment with the musical tastes of the Italian society, to which he devoted five years of his life. He asked to consider his suicide as a protest against this decision of the jury ...

The first years of peace after World War II in Italy. On the site of the former ruins, new houses, enterprises, and entire cities appear. However, the need for the spiritual revival of the people is also acutely felt. The country now has a lot brought from abroad - jazz, twist, rumba, samba, tango. But you need something of your own, traditionally Italian. And one of the stages of this return of traditions was festival in Sanremo.
Sanremo is a small town on the Ligurian coast. It was widely known all over the world under the name "City of Flowers", and for good reason. Florists and flowers of this city have brought it well-deserved fame. Before the war, it was also very well known as one of the best resorts on the coast of Italy. Representatives of the aristocracy and the upper strata of society from all over the world rested on it.
It is believed that the predecessor of the Sanremo festival was the National Song Festival held in 1948 and 1949 in Versilia. This competition was no longer held due to financial problems, but it aroused the interest of the casino administrator in San Remo, Pierre Bussetti. In turn, Bussetti managed to attract maestro Giulio Razzi, director of the RAI broadcasting network, to the implementation of his new project. This idea, which makes it possible to popularize one's own national song, came in handy.
The regulations of the festival were created. Various recording studios then existing in Italy were invited to submit compositions for participation in the competition. More than 200 songs were received in total.
And so, on January 29, 1951, at a local casino, festival in Sanremo began its history. As planned, the competition was broadcast by the second Italian radio program. The situation was not at all like the present. Spectators sat at tables served by waiters, and artists performed from the stage of a small entertainment venue. Three performers with twenty songs then took part in the three-day competition. The first winner of the festival, which became legendary in the future, was Nilla Pizzi with the song "Thank you for the flowers."
Obviously, this modest atmosphere explains the fact that the debut of the festival did not evoke any international response, and even the first discs appeared only two weeks after its holding. Their circulation was very small - about eighty thousand copies were sold in total. But time passed, and since 1954 the festival has been broadcast on television, and in 1977 it moved to the Ariston Theater, where it is still being held.
The late fifties and sixties were golden years for San Remo. It is gaining immense popularity all over the world. In 1960, thirty million viewers watched the live broadcast! Since 1964, not only Italians have taken part in the competition, but also celebrities from other countries.
In 1967, a rule appears, which is valid to this day - each performer can participate in the competition with a single song. In general, although the rules of the festival have changed several times, two of them have always existed: singers perform original songs that have never been heard in public before, and the authors of these songs must necessarily be Italians. Although the festival featured songs in both French and English, they were invariably written by Italian authors.
In the seventies, the Sanremo festival experienced a big decline. Among other things, this was due to the crisis in the Italian economy. The most famous performers stopped coming to the competition. In 1975, out of thirty members, twenty-six were debutants, and only forty-five thousand records were sold.
San Remo's renaissance began in the 1980s. Then the festival began to look more like a TV show than a competition. However, this in no way diminishes the public's interest in the festival. It brings together participants from a wide variety of musical styles. Famous artists and budding talents compete on the same terms.
Many of the laureates of the San Remo Festival have become superstars. Among them Al Bano and Romina Power, 1984 winners and 1986 first place winner Eros Ramazzotti.
The extraordinary popularity of the festival even captured the USSR. Some episodes of it appeared on television, and in the mid-eighties many famous Italian stars, including Al Bano and Romina Power, Tony Esposito, Toto Cutugno, Pupo, Rikki E Believe are invited to tour Moscow and Leningrad.
Now the Sanremo Song Festival is one of the oldest in Europe. He became the prototype of the Euro Festival, which later became known as Eurovision.
