Master class “Rose from cold porcelain”. At home
Content
Cold porcelain is perfect for creating delicate rose buds. Its structure and flexibility in work will give your flowers an unusual beauty. In addition, flowers made using a material such as “cold porcelain” by the hands of a talented craftsman are very similar to real ones and are sometimes quite difficult to distinguish.
Before you make any complex composition, bouquet or decoration of roses, you need to sculpt the flower itself. For this there are many in various ways. The choice of one or another sculpting method depends on your preferences and level of professional skill.
Techniques for making a rose bud
Buds can be made in several ways. It all depends on the availability of materials and molds for modeling, their quantity and, of course, your skill and imagination. Let's look at some options for making delicious rose buds in our master classes.
Method one
To create buds using this method you will need the following materials:
- ready-made mass for modeling “cold porcelain” in white and green colors;
- paper;
- wire for making petals and stems;
- PVA glue;
- rich hand cream;
- silicone molds “leaves” or real rose leaves;
- green floral ribbon;
- scissors;
- balls of different diameters on skewer;
- wavy knife and brush.
We attach paper soaked with PVA glue to the wire. Then we begin to create rose petals from cold porcelain.
Advice! When sculpting petals, you need to take a small amount of material. The parts should be small and thin, since excessive thickness and size can lead to cracking of the bud during the drying process.
Roll out a thin pancake from a small piece of cold porcelain. As you work, you must constantly lubricate your hands and tools with cream to prevent the porcelain from sticking.
We form the rolled out cake into a petal on the palm using a ball on a skewer.
After this, carefully lubricate the petal with a small amount of PVA glue and carefully attach it to a paper ball attached to a wire.
We attach the remaining petals in the same way, gradually forming a beautiful bud.
After completing all the work on creating a bud from individual petals, you can begin creating the base of the bud and leaves. To do this, you need to fashion a base for a bud from cold green porcelain and glue it using the same PVA glue to the petals already formed into a bud.
Let's start making leaves.
First, roll out small-sized cakes from cold porcelain. Then, using special sculpting tools, we give the future leaves the desired shape and attractive appearance. appearance.
On each leaf separately we securely attach a wire wrapped with green floral tape using glue. We put the resulting blank into a silicone mold, reminiscent in outline and shape of a real rose leaf, thus giving it a natural and more natural look.
This is the beauty you get after 15-20 minutes of hard work.
We combine the resulting leaves with the finished bud and leave our rose for a day until the material dries completely.
We got such beautiful flowers.
Method two
If you don’t have silicone molds and stencils for modeling, you can use a simpler method. In this master class, each rose petal is formed from small lumps of cold porcelain, which are gently kneaded in the palm of your hand, previously lubricated with cream. The entire process of creating a rose from cold porcelain is illustrated in detail in this photo:
Method three
The following master class is perfect for creating more miniature forms of rose buds. The photo clearly shows that each petal is created from a small lump of modeling material about the size of a pea. It is best to roll out the mass using a regular tailor's pin with a small bead at the end of a metal needle. We sequentially attach all the manufactured rose petals to it.
Method four
This option for making roses from cold porcelain is perfect for decorating a gift for March 8 or a birthday, and you can also use them to make a hair clip or a wrist bracelet.
To make a bud, you will need a ready-made “cold porcelain” modeling mass in rich red and green colors.
The manufacturing technique is similar to the first version of the rose described in this article.
First, the entire red mass must be divided into small pieces. After this, each lump needs to be carefully rolled out and formed into a petal. Only after completing this stage can you begin to assemble a rose bud from individual petals.
When the required number of buds is ready, you can start decorating the flowers with leaves. We also make them from cold porcelain, only green.
To make leaves, you will need a special form with veins so that it does not differ from the real thing. The mold can be made of any material: from silicone to glass.
After all the constituent elements of the rose have been sculpted, they should be connected to each other and then arranged into a single flower arrangement.
The entire process of making a scarlet rose described above is presented in this photo:
Now you can decorate a gift box with wonderful scarlet roses,
1. COLD CERAMICS AND TOOLS FOR MAKING DECORATIVE FLOWERS
Modeling all kinds of crafts - one of the most popular and beneficial leisure options for a child’s development. Little children having fun sculpt with their own hands various animals and fairy-tale characters from plasticine or salt dough . Children school age can help parents make flowers, original crafts and decorations made of plastic or natural clay. Products made from polymer clay or natural, after sculpting it should be heat treated (baked in the oven) so that the crafts harden.
But there is a universal material for making hardening, durable crafts, which is perfect for both children’s pastime and parents’ leisure time - this is cold porcelain.
In this article we will tell you about a wonderful material called cold porcelain. This is a very plastic material and is ideal for making a wide variety of crafts, including artificial flowers . Below you will find video lessons, master classes with photos on modeling from cold porcelain, tips on choosing tools and recipes for preparing this plastic mass for modeling at home.
The advantages of sculpting flowers and other crafts from cold porcelain are obvious: it is non-toxic and harmless, which makes it popular for sculpting with children, it is very plastic, hardens in air after making the craft (unlike baked plastic: cernit, fimo, scalpi).
According to many masters, cold porcelain (along with foamiran ) is an ideal material from which you can sculpt a wide variety of flowers of any size. Cold porcelain flowers look very realistic and are used to decorate interior objects, photo frames, boxes , women's jewelry. From such homemade flowers, craftsmen make chic wedding bouquets that will remind the newlyweds of vivid impressions for many years after the wedding . Floral arrangements made of cold porcelain can often be found at exhibitions dedicated to decorative and applied arts.
One of the most important properties of this material for craftsmen is the ability to change the shape of flower petals even after the craft dries, since cold porcelain is extremely flexible and durable. Making a flower from soft cold porcelain with your own hands is easy and simple. Flowers can be painted with oil paints, giving the petals and leaves a natural color, achieving natural transitions and shades, which increases the realism of the craft.
Caring for such artificial flowers is very simple - just sometimes blow cold air on them from a hairdryer. They do not darken or fade under sunlight. Even a novice craftsman, guided by lessons on making crafts from cold porcelain, can create with his own hands a flower or even a bouquet , which is difficult to distinguish from the real thing!
Such artificial flowers organically combined with today’s popular styles that interior designers use in their work. Therefore, they are increasingly used for decorative solutions in interior design. Some needlewomen make stunningly beautiful compositions from artificial flowers for decorating gift wrappings and boxes. Such compositions beautifully combine flowers made of cold porcelain, foam and satin ribbons (kanzashi).
Tools and materials that you may need to make crafts from cold porcelain:
√ the stacks are wide and narrow;
√ rolling pin;
√ tweezers;
√ scissors;
√ wire cutters;
√ flexible wire;
√ decorative cosmetics for tinting and tinting;

HOW PROFESSIONAL
It’s not difficult to make cold porcelain with your own hands at home; there are several methods. We will consider the two main ones used by experienced craftswomen in this article. Creating beautiful porcelain products is an interesting activity that is accessible to anyone. And we will help you with your work!
What is “cold porcelain”?
By its name it speaks of its resemblance to real porcelain products. But unlike ordinary material, “cold” material dries naturally in the air. Flowers that are stunning in their naturalness are made from it - lilacs, roses, orchids.
“Cold porcelain” is rapidly gaining popularity among craftswomen. Its delicate texture, velvety, and ease of application become attractive. The finished mass is sold in craft and creative supply stores, but resourceful needlewomen did not stop there and came up with recipes for home preparation.
As a rule, flowers are sculpted from cold porcelain, and the result is incredible - delicate, fragile, translucent - absolutely indistinguishable from real ones!
For what purposes is it used?
As many craftsmen believe, and quite rightly, cold porcelain is an ideal option for sculpting excellent products! Flowers created from it can be used to decorate any object: interior bouquets, frames, boxes, women's jewelry.
By assembling ready-made buds into compositions, sorceresses and needlewomen make stunning bouquets for wedding ceremonies. Such inflorescences do not fade, and for many years continue to remind of the celebration.
Artificial compositions fit optimally into modern interiors, occupying an important role in the arsenals of designers. As already mentioned, “porcelain” flowers, which were made by a talented master, are incredibly similar to real ones and only a tactile touch can convince you of the opposite!
By decorating gift packaging with small flowers and leaves, you will bring joy to your family and friends for whom these surprises are intended.
Ingredients for making cold porcelain
In the modern handicraft world, all the components are available to anyone who wants to learn how to sculpt. In general, there is ready-made material, but many people prefer to make it themselves.
The ingredients for roses made of cold porcelain, master classes for the creation of which are presented on the Internet, do not differ much.
You will need to get one glass of corn starch (for the first time you can take potato starch, the only difference is the shade of the finished mass and the different degrees of plasticity). The mixture will turn out snow-white and velvety.
You will also need to acquire PVA glue - always with plasticizer D 1, a small amount of water, fatty cream, citric acid and glycerin (opinions differ here - some add this ingredient, others don’t).
The methods for preparing the mass are also different - you can boil the mixture, or you can get by with just kneading. Let's look at all the options, and everyone can choose the right one for themselves.
DIY cold porcelain at home
For it you need to take:
- Unscented Vaseline or Vaseline oil - 1 tablespoon.
- Corn starch (if not, then use potato starch for testing) - 2 tablespoons.
- 2.5 tablespoons of soda.
- The necessary shades of watercolor.
- A bottle of PVA glue with a capacity of 35 ml.
In a dry, clean plate, mix starch and petroleum jelly, rubbing thoroughly. Next, add soda and mix again.
Then we add glue here a little at a time, monitoring the thickness and ductility of the mass - ideally it should turn out plastic and soft. Now apply the cream to your hands and carefully knead the resulting lump until you obtain a homogeneous texture.
Before you make a rose from cold porcelain, you need to paint it. They use watercolors, lip gloss, pastels and even cocoa powder!
First you need to decide how much mass will go into this or that part of the flower, and then divide everything into pieces and add it separately to each dye. Storage should be done in packaged form, in bags or jars. Some time after production, porcelain may crumble; this is very easy to correct. You need to add a drop of cream and knead the whole lump.
This manufacturing option is perfect for children's handicrafts, because it does not require labor-intensive manipulations and a long time.
The second option for preparing cold porcelain with cooking
This method is much more complicated, but the resulting mass is almost the same as purchased. So, let's begin:
- The main ingredient here will be glue - it must contain plasticizer D 1. It is sold in building materials stores.
- Next, you need starch and it is better if it is rice or corn. The whiteness and velvety of your porcelain are guaranteed!
- Nivea cream in a tin box of blue color- the best option.
- Johnson's baby oil is another essential component. It is possible to replace it with Vaseline, but the former contains coconut oil, which is an excellent softener.
- Citric acid powder.
We measure 100 ml of glue and the same amount of starch by volume (it’s more convenient to do this in a measuring cup). Next, add another 4 level teaspoons of starch.
It is necessary to cook in a container with a very massive and thick bottom, otherwise the porcelain will burn:
- Here we pour glue, half a teaspoon of cream, a quarter spoon of citric acid powder and a full spoon of oil.
- Turn on low heat and, stirring constantly, cook until the first bubbles appear and the cream dissolves.
- Pour in half a glass of starch and knead, then pour in the rest.
- Constantly stirring, we collect everything in the center of the container, forming a lump. It’s easy to check for readiness - you need to press the entire resulting lump with a spoon and sharply lift it up. Finished porcelain will simply fall off the spoon, and undercooked porcelain will stick.
- Lightly dust the porcelain board with starch and place the mixture here. Let cool.
It is advisable to wash dishes and hands at this time using regular dishwashing detergent. Before working with porcelain, lubricate dry hands with cream or Vaseline and begin to knead the lump. The result is a plastic, soft and velvety substance. Porcelain remaining after work is stored in a plastic bag for about a month.
Necessary equipment and additional materials
To create a rose from cold porcelain according to the master class, you will need to acquire the following tools:
- A set of buns with large and small balls.
- Rolling pin or cylindrical object.
- Tweezers with rounded tips.
- Scissors.
- Pliers.
- Wire.
- PVA glue.
- Acrylic paints or decorative cosmetics for coloring petals.
- Acrylic varnish for fixing finished parts of the composition.
Be sure to have wet wipes ready to wipe your hands during the rose making process.
Cold porcelain is easy to make for beginners, but keep your fingers clean at all times. Each speck will be clearly visible on a snow-white background and will make the craft sloppy.
Description of the work on creating a flower for beginners
There are many different ways to make flowers and buds. All craftswomen have their own established methods, using tools that are convenient for them.
Let's create a rose from cold porcelain, a master class with a detailed description is given below. In this case, special devices will be required. For work, prepare:
- A small amount of cold porcelain, painted white and green - prepare in any way described above, or purchase ready-made.
- Floral wire of different thicknesses - thicker for making cold porcelain rose stems, and thinner for leaf cuttings.
- A tube of rich cream.
- Several forms of "leaves" with veins.
- Tape.
- A bottle of PVA glue - for assembling a rose from cold porcelain.
- Paper napkins or foil.
- Knife with a figured edge.
- Brush.
We create a rose from cold porcelain according to the master class given below:
- Attach a crumpled napkin coated with glue to the thicker wire - the stem. This is a flower core preparation.
- Then, plucking small pieces from a piece of porcelain, roll them into a ball and flatten them using a special ball - a ball on a stick. You should not make parts that are too thick; they will crack when dried. Do not forget to constantly lubricate your hands and tools with cream so that the mass does not stick. Don’t be afraid to make the edges of the petals too thin, they can even be a little torn - this will give a natural, vibrant look to the flower.
- We coat the edge of the first petal with glue and fix it on a napkin - the core, wrapping it.
- Also form the next petals, gluing them one by one, as if partially overlapping each other, and moving in a circle. The size of the flower depends on your preferences - some people like blooming roses, others like buds.
- At the end of all the work on creating the petals, we proceed to the sepals and stems with leaves. The receptacle is molded from green porcelain. First glue the lower leaves, and then use a piece of green mass to make the base of the flower.
- For the leaves, take small pieces of porcelain, knead the “pancake” and cut it out. Press it onto the silicone mold, pressing through the veins of the leaf. A thin wire is placed along the thickest one and pasted over it with a piece of porcelain, stretching it along the length. Having made 3 similar leaves, they are fastened together into one, fixed on the stem and left to dry for about 24 hours.
This is how we made one beautiful rose!
But it is not at all necessary to buy special tools and forms for the job. Excellent flowers are created using just your fingers.
A very miniature rose can be easily made using a pin with a bead. First, make several balls the size of peas. They are then rolled out with a pin bead. It will also serve as the basis for the flower - all the petals are glued on top.
Giving the necessary shades to flowers
For painting products in bright shades, food paints, acrylic or special pigments and pastels are excellent.
For getting desired color porcelain, immediately after production and kneading, coloring agents are added, and then everything is kneaded again. This is necessary in order to obtain a uniform color.
Tinting of cold porcelain roses can be done on the finished product. This is done by applying food paint with cotton swabs directly onto dried porcelain. The colors are more saturated and dense. To fix the paint, the product must be held over boiling water for 1-2 minutes.
Use and oil paint, using it to create gradient transitions and flows of colors. This gives a natural, vibrant look to the “porcelain” buds.
Caring for porcelain compositions
- This is the most important thing - cold porcelain is very afraid of water! Naturally, a few drops will not destroy the product, but if exposed to moisture for a long time, the flower will collapse.
- Products made from cold porcelain have high strength. Even if it falls from a certain distance, the flower will not break. But every material has “mechanical fatigue”. If you work on the craft for a long time, you can break it.
- It is possible to clean such flowers only in a dry way - with napkins or a hard brush. The best option would be a special broom, which is electrified and attracts dusty deposits.
- Temperature changes do not have much effect on porcelain flowers. But it has been noticed that under the influence of sub-zero temperatures the material becomes more fragile.
- If the flower breaks, don’t be upset - just use glue and connect the parts of the product, trying to make the seam as invisible as possible.
I haven’t seen a master class on cold porcelain online, probably because I’m lazy. Cold porcelain quickly gained popularity among needlewomen due to its delicate texture and ease of use. This wonderful material is quite often found in handmade stores, and there are also recipes for making porcelain yourself, so every needlewoman should try it in action. Basically, cold porcelain is used for sculpting flowers. Such flowers turn out incredibly beautiful: delicate, fragile, as if alive.
To create a rose, you will need:
- Cold porcelain (cold porcelain is used here without cooking);
- PVA glue;
- Coloring pigment;
- Wire;
- A piece of foam;
- Baby cream.
Step by step lesson
So, all the materials for creating a rose are in your hands. Where to start?
The first step is to make the basis for the rose - its bud. Take a piece of porcelain, roll it into a smooth ball and sharpen it at one end. Pull out the resulting drop a little, it should become slightly oval in shape, not round. Paint the sharp part of the bud with pigment and place the other end on the wire.
First bend the wire with a hook, and insert its straight end into a piece of foam plastic so that it is firmly secured.
Great! The first step towards creating a rose has been taken. It will be convenient for you to sculpt a rose on this design.
The basis for the future flower is ready. It is necessary to collect it so that it is “overgrown” with petals. Roll out a layer of porcelain on a flat and smooth surface. It is not necessary to use a rolling pin; an ordinary flat object will do: pencil, tube of lipstick, small bottle of spray. But here it will be more convenient for you. The porcelain should not be rolled out too thin, about 3-4 mm. To prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands or to the board, use a little cream.
Cut out small circles from this layer. You can use lids from decorative or skincare cosmetics as a cutter. In this master class, petals were cut out using half of a yellow Kinder Surprise package.
Take a circle and roll out one side on your finger with a toothpick.
Try to make the petal as thin as possible, even if the porcelain breaks in some place, it’s not a big deal.
Such flaws will only make the final result more realistic, since torn petals are often found in nature on roses.
Use pigment to paint the petal. The result will be a very beautiful, smooth color transition. After this, lightly grease the unpainted end of the petal with PVA glue and carefully glue it to the prepared bud.
Thus, attach two or three petals to the blank to make a real bud. For further petals, roll out the blanks harder, make them larger. Using a toothpick, press vertically on the leaves, making indentations in them - this will add naturalism to the rose.
Continue gluing the petals, making them a little larger each time, until your rose is complete. When should I finish? It just depends on which version of the flower you like best. But still, be careful and do not turn the rose into a “ball” - such a product will be too heavy and not aesthetically pleasing. Know how to stop in time.
Look how beautiful it turned out! The true queen of flowers.
Cut out sepals from the remnants of rolled porcelain and paint them with green pigment. You can cover the wire or paint it green, simulating the stem of a flower. Attach the sepals to the base of the rose.
Admire your creation!
Leave the rose to dry in a dark, dry place. The whole process will take approximately 4 days and after that the flower will be completely ready.
Little secrets of this master class for beginners. So, what coloring pigment can be used to decorate a rose? It's actually very simple. This rose was painted with crushed pastels; ordinary cosmetic pigments are also suitable: eye shadow, blush, powder, etc.
If you want to make a rose with your own hands, then a material such as cold porcelain will work perfectly for this. It is very convenient to use and gives flowers a special beauty. A rose from pre-purchased or made cold porcelain will look just as excellent as a living one, the similarity is simply phenomenal. For those who know little or are not familiar with cold porcelain, it is worth telling a little about its properties. This is a mass that is similar to plasticine and polymer clay, suitable for different types products, dries very quickly and becomes hard. Suitable even for children as it does not cause any harm. You can buy it in a store or make it at home.
There are many options for how to make a rose. It all depends on what it will be used for, what your preferences are, and also on the level of complexity. Of course, it’s best to start with the simplest thing, but don’t be so scared, and everything will work out!
Making a rose from cold porcelain: options for creating buds
There are several methods. The choice is influenced by several factors: the availability of materials, molds for modeling, the skill of the master and his invention. In the article we will get acquainted with four methods of sculpting and in the end it will not be difficult to understand which one is right for you.
First way.For the first option for making a rose, you will need the following materials:
- white and green “cold porcelain”
- paper
- wire for making petals and stems
- PVA glue
- rich hand cream
- Silicone molds “leaves” or real rose leaves
- green floral ribbon
- scissors
- balls of different diameters on a skewer
- wavy knife and brush
We impregnate the paper with PVA glue and attach it to the wire. Now you can start creating rose petals. For them you should not take large pieces of material, the leaves should be small in size and the thickness should not be excessive; if these tips are not followed, the buds may crack during the drying process.
Take a small piece of our mass and roll it out, you should get a small pancake. It is important to apply cream to your hands and tools throughout the sculpting process to prevent the porcelain from sticking.
Then a ball on a skewer is used, with its help we roll out the pancake, giving it the shape of a petal.
Now we apply PVA glue to the resulting petal, the main thing here is accuracy, and attach it to a paper ball located on the wire.
We repeat these steps with each subsequent petal, so we get the bud of our rose.
When the bud is ready, we begin to work on its base and leaves. Take cold porcelain Green colour, sculpt the stem and leaves and glue them to the finished bud using PVA glue.
How to make leaves?
We form small-sized cakes from our mass, make the necessary leaf model and try not to forget about the external similarity.
Using glue, we connect each leaf to a wire, which in turn is twisted into a green floral ribbon. We take a silicone mold that allows us to simulate the naturalness of our product; it should resemble the shape of a real rose leaf.
After 15-20 minutes you can enjoy the result.
When the stem and leaves are connected into one, we attach them to the bud and wait 24 hours for the material to dry completely.
Everything is ready, here is the result of painstaking work:
Second way.Not everyone has the silicone molds and stencils needed to make a rose. Therefore, here is a second way to make a rose from the simplest cold porcelain easier. In this version, the petals are simply kneaded in the palm of your hand, which must be lubricated with cream; they are made from small lumps of material. The photo clearly shows all the stages of sculpting using this method:
Third way.If you want to start with small buds or need miniature flowers for an accessory, then the third method of making a rose from high-quality cold porcelain is just right for you. The photo demonstrates well how and what needs to be done. A pea-sized piece is enough to form a petal. We take a pin with a bead at the end of a needle and roll out our mass; this same bead will serve as the basis for the bud.
Fourth method.The fourth method of making roses is not the last, but our article will be limited to this number. Since there is enough information here for both beginners and experienced professionals.
Let's proceed to the manufacturing process itself and study its features. Here you will need two colors of cold porcelain: red and green. The sculpting method is similar to our first option described above.
Before we start forming the bud, we will divide the red mass into small pieces and form petals from them.
In this case, we make several buds, so after finishing working with them all, we begin to work on the leaves of the rose, we form them from green porcelain.
To sculpt leaves, you need to take a form with veins, so the leaf will be no different from the real one.
Now that the leaves and buds are ready, they can be connected to each other. The composition you choose can be anything you want, and you can place it either on a gift box or on a hair clip. She will look irresistible everywhere.
