The guys, listening to the conversation between father and son, were wondering everything. As a result, they answer all of Sarafanov Sr.’s questions. Busygin gains confidence. Vova himself became so imbued with the old man and his life that he began to consider himself the eldest son.
Busygin came at the right time in the life of Sarafanov, whose daughter was getting married and wants to leave her father’s house. Vasya, who is unlucky in love, keeps trying to go to the taiga. And so Busygin, like that magic wand, appears to change everything. Volodya himself enjoyed the role of a son, because he never had a father. He completely immersed himself in his role, and really became like an older brother, like an eldest son who wants to help, guide his adopted brother and sister on the right path, and brighten up the old father’s senile life.
The eldest son Vladimir brings harmony to the house from which everyone wanted to escape. Nina wants to go to Sakhalin, hoping to escape the responsibilities assigned to her. Vasya couldn’t find answers to life’s questions, couldn’t find himself in life, that’s why he wanted to go to a construction site in the taiga. And Sarafanov himself would be happy to run away from home but have nowhere to go. Busygin changes everything. Now no one wants to run anywhere. Sarafanov has an eldest son to rely on, Nina has found love, Vasya has overcome his attachment to a girl. Busygin showed Nina and Vasya how much their father meant to them. However, conscience makes itself felt, and then there are also the feelings that arose for Nina. Busygin confesses everything, but this does not change anything, because, as it turns out, spiritual kinship is even stronger than blood.
The main characters of the play
One of the main characters of the play Eldest Son is Sarafanov. His life has not been successful: his wife left him, his children also want to leave home. Things weren’t going well at work and I had to leave my profession. As Sarafanov said, he did not turn out to be a serious musician and he was forced to start playing in a funeral orchestra.
Vasya, Sarafanov’s son, a tenth-grader, is in love with a girl ten years older than him.

Busygin, being a complete stranger to the Sarafanovs, unexpectedly begins to feel a family connection between them and feels responsible for their future fate. The Sarafonov family is small; schoolchild Vasenka is brought up there and daughter Nina lives with her husband, cadet Kudimov.
The work begins with a story about how the guys were looking for accommodation for the night and found it in the apartment where the Sarafonovs lived. From that moment on, events began to unfold in a serious direction. The head of the family recognizes one guy (Vladimir Busygin) as his illegitimate eldest son. He should have been twenty years old. But after some time, all family members began to note the external similarity of the elder Sarafanov and Busygin. The poor guy was literally dragged into family relationships who were not prosperous.
The head of the Sarafan family is an elderly man, intelligent, but who has not had a successful career. His wife left him, leaving him with two children. The children do not want to live and continue to look after the old man. They plan to leave the city for Sakhalin. Sarafanov saw his son in Busygin. The old man hoped that the guy would stay with him. Sarafanov believed that his newfound son needed him. Therefore, he did not notice the deception that was happening before his eyes.
Vladimir was not against playing along with the old man and pretending to be his son. He actively entered into character. The guy quickly gained confidence. Vladimir treated his younger children as if they were his own brothers. He gave them advice and instructions. He tried to teach them about life. Sometimes he went too far and interfered where he shouldn't.
In fact, Busygin was not Sarafanov’s own child. But, despite this, feelings of compassion, fatherly love and understanding arose between them.
The main idea of the work is that every person wants to feel needed, loved and irreplaceable. The author tried to convey to the reader the idea of how important family relationships and relationships are.
