Yulia Samoilova illness
The trouble happened suddenly, after little Yulia received a routine vaccination. Suddenly, her beloved daughter stopped getting up. The Samoilov couple turned to the best doctors in their city. And they declared that the child would not live until he was five years old. With each month of treatment, the girl only got worse. As a result, the parents refused medical procedures. And suddenly, Julia felt better. At the age of 13, doctors diagnosed the final and irrevocable diagnosis: « Spinal amyotrophy of Werding-Hoffmann“, which sounded like a sentence. Future star Russian stage became disabled, but fate did not break the girl’s strong spirit. She was ready to move on, choosing the path of creativity.

But she soon realized that it was easier for her to perform on her own, and got a job as a singer in a restaurant. Gathering a large audience in the restaurant hall, she dreamed of a big stage. But they hinted to her that she would not build a career in show business. It is possible that for this reason she gave up singing for a while, went to study at a university and opened her own advertising company. But the soul demanded something different. Having won a local competition that was reminiscent of the “Star Factory”, the girl decides to fight for her place on the professional stage.

Yulia Samoilova and Eurovision 2017
At the beginning of spring 2017, representatives of the Russian pop scene said that Yulia Samoilova would represent the interests of Russia at the European Song Contest. According to sources, the young singer was to sing a song in Kyiv called “ Searing fire". Such famous musicians and lyricists as Leonid Gutkin, Netta Nimrodi and Arie Burshtein worked on the composition.
The public reaction to this news was mixed. Various posts were written on social networks and articles in news publications. Including negative ones. After all, according to some analysts, Russian authorities sent a disabled person to a European song competition specifically to pity viewers around the world, which is a real manifestation of cynicism. Be that as it may, Russia made just such a choice. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian side prohibited the Russian singer from participating in the competition due to the fact that she once performed in Crimea.

Yulia Samoilova — I Won`t Break
Yulia Olegovna Samoilova is a Russian singer who was selected to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song “Flame Is Burning”. Due to the scandal in Ukraine, Yulia Samoilova's performance was postponed until next year. In 2018, Samoilova performed poorly at the Eurovision 2018 contest and failed to reach the final.
Childhood and education of Yulia Samoilova
Yulia was born in the city of Ukhta (Komi ASSR, RSFSR, USSR) on April 7, 1989. At the age of 13, Samoilova became a disabled person of the 1st group with a diagnosis of Werdnig-Hoffmann spinal amyotrophy. Moves in a wheelchair. According to Yulia, an exacerbation of her hereditary disease could have resulted from an unsuccessful vaccination against polio. However, experts deny such a connection.
The first performance took place at the age of four at New Year's party with Tatiana Bulanova’s song “Don’t Cry.” Julia amazed and excited both the children and Santa Claus with her performance. The big doll was a reward for the girl.

At the age of 10, Yulia Samoilova performed for the first time at a charity concert with the song “Little Country” (by Igor Nikolaev). Samoilova was noticed and invited to study music at the local Palace of Pioneers. And at the age of 15, the girl began studying music at the city House of Culture. Julia participated in many regional music competitions.
Yulia Samoilova studied at high school, and then was transferred to home schooling. After receiving secondary education, Yulia Samoilova tried to enter St. Petersburg State University, but it did not work out. And after some time she began to study at the Ukhta branch of the Modern Humanitarian Academy with a degree in psychology, but did not graduate. The training was “distance learning”. As Yulia Samoilova herself said, there is simply no benefit from such studies. “I finally realized that all this was nonsense at the moment when we had a teleconference with teachers from Moscow. They ask us questions, but we are all silent - we don’t know anything. One question, second, fifth. The teachers were silent, and then they said this: yeah. - Well, okay, let's just talk then, what do you do in general? I was terribly ashamed. I dropped out. As a result, only a couple of people completed their diploma, and my favorite psychology teacher resigned from SGA.”
Creativity of Yulia Samoilova
Yulia Samoilova’s triumphant ascent through the steps of Russian competitions began in 2002. Then she took first place in the regional competition “Silver Hoof - 2002” (nomination for under 13 years old) in the city of Inta, Komi Republic. In 2003 she became a laureate of the All-Russian festival “On the Wings of Dreams” (Moscow). In the same year, she took second place in the “Silver Hoof - 2003” competition (nomination - from 14 to 18 years old).

In 2005, Yulia Samoilova won first place and the audience award in the open interregional competition “Spring Drops” in the city of Murom, Vladimir Region, and second place in the All-Russian competition “Shlyager - 2005” in Yekaterinburg. A year later she became a laureate International competition"Wind Rose Festival" in Hurghada (Egypt).
The girl became seriously interested in heavy alternative music. In 2008 she founded the group “TerraNova”, which existed until 2010.
A serious turn in the biography of Yulia Samoilova was the finale of the third season of Alla Pugacheva’s project “Factor A”, where the singer took second place, and most importantly, received the “Alla’s Golden Star” award. The performance of the song “Prayer” by Yulia Samoilova was actually very sincere and bright. It brought tears to Alla Borisovna, and the audience even stood up. But Julia, as a creative person, was dissatisfied with her performance.

Yulia Samoilova recalled: “We lived in a hotel right next to the studio. Every Thursday we had filming. We arrived at the studio around 10 am, and left somewhere around 2-3 am, it happened. Everyone was tired, and if there hadn’t been so much time in which you were busy with unknown things before the concert, then we probably would have performed better.”
In 2014, two songs “Light” (words and music by Yulia Samoilova), “New Day” (words: Konstantin Arsenev, music: Alexander Yakovlev) were recorded. A duet with Gosha Kutsenko was also recorded - “Comet” (words and music: Gosha Kutsenko). This duet is included in Gosha Kutsenko’s second album. In 2014, at the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Yulia performed the song “Together”.

Yulia Samoilova at Eurovision
And here is another triumph. On March 12, 2017, Yulia Samoilova was selected by Channel One to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv with the song “Flame Is Burning.”
After the announcement that Channel One made in the program “ Sunday Time", a wave of discussion arose. This fragile but incredibly strong girl found herself in the center of everyone's attention. In her first television interview after her election, Yulia Samoilova admitted that she had been preparing for the opportunity to appear on the competition stage for many years.
“The most important thing,” Yulia believes, “is to soberly assess your capabilities. It often happens that a child draws some kind of booger, and the parents are delighted and begin to drag him to all sorts of competitions. As a result, he has inflated self-esteem, although he has no talent as such. Or the opposite situation. I believe that the main thing is not to be afraid of anything, if you are really talented, and not to listen to anyone. But you shouldn’t think that if you have some kind of illness, then this gives you some kind of privileges.”
Unfortunately, the Kyiv authorities did not share Yulina’s joy. News that Ukraine may ban Yulia Samoilova from entering the country appeared on March 17. The management of the competition refused to intervene in this situation. Eurovision executive director Jon Ola Sand said that they personally have no complaints against Yulia, but the final decision on the participation of the Russian contestant should be made by the Ukrainian authorities.
On March 22, the Security Service of Ukraine officially banned entry into the country for three years for a participant in the Eurovision music contest from Russian Federation Yulia Samoilova for the fact that in 2015 Yulia gave a concert in Crimea at the gala concert of the World of Sports and Good festival, and according to the resolution of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, foreigners must have special permission to visit the territory of the Russian peninsula.
Music critic Sergei Sosedov, commenting on Samoilova’s performance at the Eurovision 2018 song contest, noted that Yulia did not even understand where she was and was in prostration.
“There was a place, she forgot where to enter, missed half a musical phrase. It was shown on television... She should have already entered, the backing vocals come in, but she is silent. It was only after realizing that the backing vocals were singing that she then entered in the middle of the musical phrase. She had such a helpless and confused smile. She was generally confused, not herself,” the news quoted Sergei Sosedov as saying.
The critic said that Samoilova’s performance was the worst in the entire history of the country’s participation in Eurovision. “Of course, not only she alone is responsible for this failure, but to a greater extent those who prepared this performance: vocal teachers, directors of this performance, who were responsible for this entire production,” Sosedov emphasized.
Yulia Samoilova’s mother said that the singer was broken before the performance - she was crippled by criticism after the release of the video. As a result, “the girl left broken.”
The video, as reported in the news, was directed by Alexey Golubev, who also staged Samoilova’s competition number for Eurovision 2018. I won’t break for Samoilova was written by Netta Nimrodi, Arie Burshtein and Leonid Gutkin, who had previously worked on songs by Dina Garipova and Polina Gagarina.
“Of course, everyone is very upset. We still feel a lot of shock and are all depressed. After Eurovision we are left with a million “Why?” Why did you shoot a cheap clip on your knee? Why didn’t anyone invest in Yulia, because she represents the whole country? Why did so much negativity come at her? There is even the impression that these statements were specially paid for,” the news quoted Yulia Samoilova’s mother as saying.

In their opinion, the girl illegally crossed the border: she performed at a concert in Crimea as a sign of support for the Russian Federation. She crossed the border from Russia when it was prohibited to do so. Despite the unsuccessful attempt, Samoilova will test her strength in the song competition in 2019. We hoped until the last moment that Yulia Samoilova would go to Kyiv for Eurovision 2017. That music will be above politics. But the Ukrainian security service still did not allow our participant into the square. Then the organizer of the competition, the European Broadcasting Union, offered to show Yulia’s performance in live via satellite. Channel One refused the offer. The situation around the competition is developing so rapidly that at the time of signing the issue we do not know what it will be like tomorrow. We are sure of one thing: no matter what happens, Yulia will be supported by her family and beloved husband. We asked the singer about them.
When Yulia came to us at Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda, it immediately became clear: our person. Biker jacket, jeans, cheerful look from under bangs. An ordinary girl, just with some physical limitations. A purely feminine observation: beautifully colored hair, excellent manicure, neat makeup. Next to Yulia, as always, was her assistant Alexey Taran, who, as it turned out, was not just a friend, but an official husband for three years.
“I wanted to impress her with chains.”
- You are officially married, but there is not a word about it in the media. How long have you been married?
Julia:- We got married on November 12, 2014. We ran into the registry office right in our down jackets so that we could be quickly registered. But we are just planning a real wedding, with many guests, a white fluffy dress. Maybe in the next year.
- What was your first date like?
Alexei:- At first we corresponded on social networks. Yulia was a free girl, but she rejected me for a long time, about a month. Then we talked on the phone. I found out that she was in a wheelchair in the evening the day before the meeting. Friends said: this is Yulka Samoilova, who sings heavy music in a rock band. I knew that there was such a girl, but I had no idea that I had been corresponding with her for a month.
- What did you write to each other? Yul, he must have been actively stalking you?
Julia:- Yes! He wrote: “I want to meet you, read poetry under the moon...”
Alexei:- Oh my God!
- You were a romantic. This is so touching.
Alexei:- Julia erased all this from me. Now I'm normal.
- Were you both shy on the first date?
Alexei:- I remember that it was August 28. Heat. And then we were both so informal. And so I walked all in black, in chains (such stupidity!). I knew that Yulia sang heavy music, and I thought: “Well, baby, get ready: a cool rocker is going on a date with you.” Now I understand how terrible it was.
Julia: - I saw Lesha and thought: “What a nightmare!” Honestly! But I really liked his voice on the phone. And laughter. When we met, I wanted to take his hand - it turned out to be so soft and warm. And his hands decided everything - contact occurred.
-Who is the boss in your house?
Alexei:- Julia is the boss when it comes to cooking. She is such an engineer in a white helmet: she sits with recipes and spices. He mixes everything and says: “Okay, now add this here, cut this here.”
Julia:- I can say that without each other we manage life poorly. I physically can't do something. And Lesha is a little confused.
- How did your mother decide to give you away? young man, whom you met on the Internet?
Julia: - I quickly introduced them. Lesha's mother immediately liked him. He is very wise, reads a lot, understands a lot of things. Mom said, “Good boy.”
“The word “disabled” makes me cringe”
At the “Factor A” competition, at the very beginning, Alla Pugacheva said: “Don’t think that we will give you a discount for the stroller.” And then she stood up in tears and applauded.
This warning is a normal reaction. I often sit on the jury at competitions where children with disabilities show how they sing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of weak numbers, and they are told: “You’re great.” Because of this, the guys stop working on themselves.
-Are you a tough jury member?
They even stopped inviting me.
- By the way, what is the correct name for people with physical disabilities? Is the word "disabled" appropriate?
I don't like the word "disabled". Especially the “disabled woman”. It's cringe-worthy! Just a person and a person. We don’t divide people into redheads and blondes.
- Are there any difficulties in everyday life?
In general, it would be good to put the roads in order. Even a healthy person is not always comfortable walking over potholes. And for a person in a wheelchair it’s generally torture. And it is desirable that there are smooth ramps everywhere. In Sochi, for example, they did it. It would be like this everywhere! Although getting around Moscow is easier than in small Russian cities. There are more ramps, elevators, and buses are equipped, although they are packed with so many people that sometimes you get tired of waiting for the next one and take a taxi.
Many people believe that if a person appears on TV, it means he has provided for himself. Is it difficult for a young artist to earn a living now?
Someone is sure that I have millions in my hands. No, that's not true. If we travel by train, I think everything is clear. You can make money through creativity, but it’s difficult.
- Information has appeared that Oksana Samoilova, the wife of the famous rapper Dzhigan, is your cousin.
And so there are rumors that Dzhigan is pushing me, so we tried not to advertise our relationship. And then it will start: “You yourself don’t know how to do anything, your sister pushed you through!”
QUESTION - RIB
Should I get vaccinated?
I would like to clarify one more question: you have Werdnig-Hoffmann spinal amyotrophy. They wrote that your health problems began after receiving the polio vaccine. Many parents are now afraid to vaccinate their children...
At 11 months I was vaccinated against polio. And the next day I stopped getting up. We are told that it is just a coincidence - the vaccination and the manifestation of the disease. But the vaccination notes were torn out of my medical book. Not us - the doctors. And there is no need to be afraid of vaccinations. All our friends, my nephews, goddaughters, Lesha’s acquaintances - everyone got vaccinated. And everything is fine, thank God.
